Yes. You read that right. Greece has fallen...or at least the camp that has catered to Greek demigods for over three millennia has fallen. Camp Half-Blood had a traitor in their midst. A traitor with powerful allies who quickly burned the camp to the ground. Some were lost, some killed, and the rest who remained began the long trek across the country to the only place where they might be safe: Camp Jupiter.
Chiron banded what campers they had left, told them of the other camp and sent word to Camp Jupiter pleading for shelter. Chaos now threatens the camp daily with the arrival of new Greek campers to this foreign camp. This camp with strange customs and rules. While on the Roman end the Praetors are forced to hold up a balancing act of providing sanctuary while also trying to find the traitor before their home suffers the same fate as Camp Half-Blood.
New alliances are forged, new enemies are made, and these two worlds have to find some way to work together for the future of them all. Which side are you on? Which position will you take? It's time to jump in the fray because Greece has fallen.

Nathan hopped down off of the examination table and stood. There didn't seem to be any blood coming from his nose anymore so she gave him a thumbs-up sign. He had some blood on his shirt, but other than that, he seemed to be good to go. She imagined that in a place like this the laundry detergent must be stronger than anything available in the mortal's realm. She had seen three broken noses already that day alone. Perhaps they simply threw them out and ordered more? Either way, her thoughts were taken off of laundry and into archery. Felix mentioned that he too wasn't very good at archery and she gave a sympathetic grin.
Avery was pleased to not be the only one who was utterly hopeless at archery in the room. It was especially comforting knowing that he was a child of Apollo, or at least she assumed that he was. Nearly every one of the healers who she had met had all been children of the archery-loving God. Nathan spoke up, adding that practice was the only way to get better at something and she nodded. "That's true, but I have a feeling that you'd change your mind if you saw me shoot one. I don't think there's enough practice time in the world to make my aim better." The last twelve that she had shot hadn't come anywhere near the large target. Among the ones she shot, four ended up in the dirt, two sailed off past the field (where she could only hope they stuck in a tree somewhere), four more of them hit the dirt two whole lanes over from where she had been shooting and finally the last two embedded deeply into her instructor's nearby duffle bag.
Felix mentioned that the Infirmary was always needing help and she nodded, offering up another soft smile, "Well feel free to send for me if you ever need some help. It's kind of nice being good at something for a change." Felix mentioned that she could help him mop and Avery nodded once more. "Sure. Sounds good." She had no idea where they kept the mops and brooms in this place. She had simply been handed the supplies cart earlier. She figured her best course of action would be to wait for his direction anyway, he was the person in charge.
The medic thanked her and Avery smiled brightly, "You're welcome." She couldn't help but feel good about the whole situation. Here she was, hours into her assignment and she was not only following through correctly but proving helpful. That was a high achievement in this place. At least it was when it came to her. There weren't many Roman things that she could say she was good at, but she was perfectly pleased to note that substitute nurse was now top of the list. Perhaps it was the only thing on the list, but that mattered neither here nor there.
It seemed like her suggestion had landed. Unintentionally she had gotten the hurt boy out of training for the day. She wasn't sure if he would be grateful or not but could only grimace when the healer began to give the other boy the orders. Thankfully the boy he was working on took it all in stride without much care about the order so she relaxed. The two introduced themselves and Avery found herself beaming once more, "Nice to meet you both."
The healer thanked her again for her assistance and she shrugged, "It's really no problem at all. I wasn't doing so well in archery so they sent me to you guys. I'm just glad I was able to help out." She watched as Felix stepped back and looked over Nathan's wound. It looked good to her, but she had no medical knowledge to speak of so she stayed quiet. Instead she threw away the rest of the unused cloths in the trash and took her gloves off, putting them in the bin as well. "Is there anything else you need help with? I think this is the last room that needs restocking so I'm at your service." She did a small mock bow with a grin while waiting for the medic's response.
Avery had paused in her spot, one hand shifting the weight of the bin into the other hand. It wasn't terribly heavy, but holding it while firmly in spot was proving more and more of a nuisance. She had offered to fetch any supplies that the healer had needed and Avery listened quietly when he spoke to his patient.
A bright smile landed on her face when he finished up his advice with the mention that there wouldn't be any swelling. That was good news! Not that either of them seemed to be too concerned about the patient's situation. Though, the more she thought about it, she mused that broken noses were probably about as common as papercuts in this place. Avery gave a sympathetic grin to the boy with the injury as he made a small joke. The healer's voice spoke up, directing her attention to a place behind her and she nodded. "Sure. No problem."
Avery lowered the bin down and turned around towards the shelf-lined wall that she had just re-filled. It took only a moment for her eyes to find the bin that he had indicated. She carefully opened the plastic container that they were in and extracted a few. Shutting the container back carefully, she walked over to where the two boys were. "Here you go doctor," Avery's voice mimicking the mock seriousness of the voices that she had heard on tv when her mother was into her medical dramas phase.
The boy with the broken nose spoke about the other person getting off way worse and Avery made another small grimace. She was very much pro whatever the clear opposite of pain was. A pain pacifist if there ever was such a thing. "Just look on the bright side, now you can totally blow off the rest of the day and chill by the pool or something." The words came out of her mouth before she paused, her head tilting slightly in thought before piping up again. "That is a thing here right? Or would it be opposite? Lose your fight and get sent away to the pool with no training privileges?" She was grinning, the small half-joke, half-curiosity question making her voice light and hopefully at ease. Trying to walk the very thin line of joking with a Roman and having them unleash misplaced anger from a misinterpreted joke. "I'm Avery by the way."
Avery breezed into the room, the bright smile on her face turning into a sheepish grimace as she realized that she had interrupted a healer doing his work. The very first thing that she had been told was to never interrupt or bother the healers working. That was one strike against her she supposed. That hadn't been a problem so far. She hated the sight of blood and had no issues staying far, far, far away from someone who was working. This time had been no different, she just hadn't had the patience to wait for a proper response before walking in. The blonde boy who was tending to another boy, thankfully, simply returned her grin in response, murmuring that they were almost done and she relaxed a little.
Avery walked to the side of the room, where the small plastic bins were and set her box down. She put gloves on and began re-stocking the compartments. The brown-haired boy asked the blonde if he was sure the nose wasn't broken and Avery angled her head just a bit to peek. The poor dark-haired boy had blood on his face and shirt and although he wasn't talking to her, Avery piped up. "It's … not that bad. I mean, I'm no healer but I'm sure it could have been a lot worse." She gave another bright smile, and a small shrug as her offering to his plight. Hoping it'd put him at ease and not into annoyance with her meddling. Turning her attention back to the job she was supposed to be doing, she spoke again. "Do you need anything?" She asked the blonde, gesturing to the supplies she was carrying.
Avery had been doing her part, fulfilling the role of a pretend soldier to the very best of her abilities to be perfectly exact. She had ran the miles (mostly), fired the arrows (two of twenty that actually hit the target) and polished the weapons in the armory until they shined (which had actually been a negative in their eyes for some reason). She had done her very best, but three classes in and she found herself re-assigned. They hadn't tried sugar coating the fact that she wasn't, nor would ever be, a match for the Romans or their training. So they had told her to volunteer in the infirmary. When she told them that she had no medical knowledge they simply murmured that it was the healer's problem and sent her away.
So off she went.
It started well enough. They asked her to cut gauze, do some light cleaning up, and re-stock the various containers that held everything from cotton balls to antiseptic. Easy things that didn't take a whole lot of concentration nor soldier refined skill. So around the infirmary she went, toting a container with supplies, refilling what was needed as she made her way through the mostly empty rooms. All had been un-eventful, a fact that she was thankful for.
She walked up to the next room, knocking two times on the door before walking in, a bright smile on her face. "Hi. Don't mind me, I'm just re-filling supplies"
Avery was doing her very best impression of a statue while her head began playing out various scenarios. She could make a run for it of course, that seemed like the most logical thing to do. Surely there had to be a second exit out of the room. The only thing that made her re-evaluate that plan was something that she remembered her Dad telling her about predatory animals. He had been planning a trip to northeast Africa at the time and had made it his mission to prepare her for all scenarios. It had been drilled into her head not to run away from a predator. They were always faster and it triggered something in them. She couldn't remember the specifics but she did remember that she shouldn't run. Were eagles considered predators? She, again, wasn't sure. To a mouse they certainly were and with the size of the birds in front of her she figured that they wouldn't have a hard time making her their next meal if they really wanted to. So there she stood, looking like the world's most unimpressive statue.
Avery had begun trying very slowly to itch a spot on her cheek when a male voice grabbed her attention. She remained very still while turning her head to see who was speaking and found a boy with a large grin on his face watching her. Avery returned the grin immediately, that alarming sense of dread that she had been feeling easing. She didn't know who he was but he seemed quite at ease around the large birds and that was good enough for her. He asked if she had meant to lock herself inside and she shook her head. "Definitely not." An uneasy chuckle came out of her lips. She was all about immersing oneself in new experiences, but not when the new experiences were as large as she was with sharp talons and beaks.
The boy spoke up again, assuring her that the birds weren't as dangerous as they looked and Avery let out a small breath that she had been holding. The boy seemed utterly relaxed, as if he spent all of his free-time chilling with deadly animals and a small grin came to her lips as he waved to the birds. "Well that's a relief." Very slowly, she let her body relax, her muscles still feeling tense as she took a deep breath in and then out.
Avery began to edge slowly towards where the boy was, keeping her eyes on the birds. It wasn't exactly that she didn't trust him, she was just keenly aware of her bad luck and there was no telling what might happen if fate decided to throw them a curve ball. She finally made it to him as he told her who he was, soothing her nerves once more. Surely everything was going to be fine. He was right. Eagles were his father's sacred animal. If anyone could fix this situation, surely it would be a Zeus kid. "Hi. I'm Avery. Hermes kid." And utterly useless in this scenario, the thought finishing itself silently in her head. He laughed, causing one of the birds to shriek in protest and she instinctively grabbed his arm, a nervous smile on her lips. "You did unlock it before you walked in right?"
He had called her out on her mistake so she assumed that he had fixed the error but crazier things had happened before. Avery's other hand moved to try the door, but as she gripped it, one of the birds took flight, causing another yelp of surprise to leave her lips as she briefly shut her eyes closed. After it was clear that the bird had flown to go a bit farther up his enclosure and not to swoop down and eat them as she had expected, she opened her eyes.
Where she had been grabbing the handle was now gone. Her hand touching a solid door, no handle in sight anymore. A sense of dread fell over her. "Oh no. No. No." She touched the solid door again, hoping her powers were playing a joke on her, but there was nothing there anymore. Just a solid, unrelenting door. Her cheeks were red as she turned back to Evan. "I'm so sorry. Is there...another exit?"
Avery shook her head, laughing along softly with the boy as he spoke. He was playing of course, his voice a full octave higher than normal. It was too perfect for words. "No, I'm really not. That was perfect." She was grinning from ear to ear. She hadn't met too many Romans and she hated to lump whole groups of people together, but she found herself hoping that more of them were like this boy. He was easy to get along with. He rolled with all of her jokes, not once pausing or chiding her for being too silly. He had went along with it all, and all while he continued helping her do a chore that he hadn't even been required to do. It was truly more than she could have hoped for.
He finished up with the heavy equipment and she continued to work as quickly as she could with the grin still on her face. He had made the task go by not only quickly, but smoothly. Plus, with him being here, she knew that she wasn't mess anything up as far as where everything went. She didn't doubt that he would correct her if she misplaced something so she continued to do what was in front of her in the way that she had started.
She nodded to his reply as her hands continued stacking and sorting arrows. He paused before adding on to the sentiment and she turned to face him then, a softer smile on her lips. "Yeah, I get it completely. I loved it too. I love meeting new people and seeing new places. Everything is always an adventure, nothing is ever the same." Her face turned wistful for just a short moment before she turned her attention back to her work.
She couldn't picture ever sitting still in one place that never changed. At least when she was at camp, there was always something new going on. There was always a new camper or a new member in their bunk. Any un-sorted campers were welcomed in the Hermes cabin and Avery couldn't have been more pleased about that. It was the perfect situation. Even if she had to be in one single place, it never felt unchanging or stagnant. Another set of arrows was sorted and stacked and Avery dusted her hands off on her pants. "How's that look?"
She had told him about Boston and as he commented on it, her other hand fingered the small Boston U charm that was on her bracelet. "Yeah, it was." She knew it was a kid's sentiment but sometimes she wished she could go back to that time. Just for one day. To see her brother and dad under the same roof without fighting. To listen to her dad geek out about some weapon that he had found. She would give anything to get one more day like that back. As Espen asked about her parentage she shook her head, "No. I wish sometimes, I think those would be much cooler than the powers I have now, but no. I'm a Hermes kid. You?"
She then asked him about his favorite spots and as he spoke she listened quietly, though when he said that he'd never been anywhere interesting her eyes widened, a look of playful shock filling her features. She waited until he was done speaking before commenting. "Well that settles it then. We need to take a road trip." She grinned brightly, "I can show you all of the best places to eat on the east coast. Even some cool small towns. A lot of them are supposed to be haunted, but that's according to my brother and you can't always take what he says seriously." He asked her about where she'd like to travel to and Avery tapped her finger against her chin in thought. A thousand places popped into her head but she didn't have to think too long before she answered his question.
"Greece. My dad always wanted to visit it. He talked on and on about seeing all of the historical places and about the species of fish that lived in the Mediterranean. I think that's where I would go first if I could." She thought, just for a moment, about how happy her dad would be. How much she'd like to walk along the beaches, maybe send up an offering in his name. It wouldn't be the easiest trip, but she could imagine that it'd be the most meaningful by far.
"What about you? One ticket to anywhere in the world. Where are you going?" She watched him, curiosity filling her before she grinned and spoke rather excitedly, "Wait! No. Let me guess…." He was a small-town loving guy and very kind. Her first instinct was to see him somewhere like Spain or perhaps somewhere tropical but no. That didn't fit him. She could see him being somewhere that had lots of welcoming locals, somewhere he could get lost in. "I got it. New Zealand?"
Avery had been getting along just fine. Better than one might have suspected she supposed. Had she already gotten in trouble? Yes. Was she completely useless in all of the training courses that she had been forced into? Also yes. But, she had made a slew of new friends and was slowly starting to feel like this place had potential to be, perhaps not home, but something that resembled a home. A home away from home she supposed. If the home was filled with lots of people who thought that she was beneath them. Which really wasn't the worst situation she supposed that they could be in so on the whole, she had nothing to complain about. She didn't mind the place, though she did miss her old camp.
At night that ache seemed to be worse. There were no nightmares, there was no tossing or turning. The problem was, that there wasn't anything at all. When it was time for lights-out, everyone dismissed and went promptly to their barracks. There was no warm campfire. No re-cap of the day with friends, no singing together. There was nothing like that in this new place. She had asked around to see if it would ever be established, but the first person had laughed at her and the second had only glared so she figured that might be a dead-end. She had thought about asking her cabin leader if they could ask, but they had seemed so busy that she hadn't wanted to burden them further.
The problem kept her up for most of the night. So in the morning, she had decided to take a stroll around the lake. The water was always a place that reminded her of home. No matter where she was, as long as she was near a body of water, she always felt close to her family. Like the miles nor even death could ever separate them, not truly. Her bunk-mates had made a joke many a time that she had been a Poseidon kid in a past life. She wouldn't have minded having water powers. It would be much more useful than the ones she actually had. Avery walked along the path that brought her to the lake, the sight of the sunshine gleaming on the water's surface made a smile instantly come to her face.
Her eyes glanced around the area then, landing on a bench that lay a few feet ahead of her. It was already occupied and before she glanced away, the person turned just slightly. Even from behind, she knew exactly who that dark hair and angled chin belonged to. She would know her brother anywhere, even if she only saw his back and a small glance of a side profile. That same slightly brooding way that he seemed to always hold himself.
Avery took off at a jog towards him, her feet closing the distance quickly. "Zeph!" She came up behind him, throwing her arms around him in a large hug. "When did you get in? Are you going to stay?" The smile was huge on her face, her arms still wrapped around him.
Avery was a little hopeful, after all, he wasn't threatening to kill her anymore so that was something. And it was only lunch together, it wasn't as if she was asking him to pledge his life to hers or denounce his Roman heritage. Surely they were allowed to share a meal? She thought about Espen for a flash of a second. He hadn't seemed to be fazed by her opposite lineage at all. He had none of the contempt that the boy in front of her did. The boy managed to utter a no, his words coming out flat and Avery felt the heat instantly warm her cheeks. Her gaze fell to the floor immediately. She didn't mind being made fun of for being silly or people wanting to have nothing to do with her because of her, at times, annoyingly positive outlook, but simply because she was who she was? That stung a bit. She swallowed hard once before looking back up again, a softer smile on her lips, "Okay. I get it." She was about to turn away when the roller coaster of emotions continued as he said he'd see her at dinner. What? Avery's face brightened, just a bit. Perhaps it wasn't about lineage. Perhaps this whole exchange was one messy example of miscommunication? She had no idea. "Sure."
The boy was still staring at her as if she had two heads and she made a mental note that she would never visit a zoo again. If this was what the penned up animals felt being stared at like they were aliens from another planet then she wanted no part in it. He repeated her offer, very slowly. As if she was going to laugh and tell him that no, it was actually all a joke. Gods, had a kid of Apollo cursed her today? Made her speech appear off? The smile remained as it was and she nodded. "Yes. I mean, if you want to?" The reminder of his barb from earlier popped into her head and she realized that perhaps he didn't want to be associated with her and this was all him floundering on having to be nice to her at all. "It's okay if you don't, I get it." She gave a little shrug, her smile reassuring. Far be it from her to throw her company at someone who wanted her nowhere near them.
Once more her words were taken the wrong way and Avery wondered if perhaps she should just quit while she was ahead. The boy bit out another venom-laced retort and It was hard not to take his words to heart. She knew the Romans hated the Greeks. But she couldn't see a reason why someone would so blatantly point her out as being less worthy than themselves. "I didn't mean…" The boy had then turned and she thought he was leaving her to the mess. Out of nowhere though, he turned back, mentioning she should wash off. She picked off another piece of what looked like pasta before replying, "I'm just glad you didn't have soup today." She looked over at him, the smallest inkling of a grin appearing on her lips. He then offered to get her food. Or at least, she thought that was what he was offering and the small grin turned into a somewhat bigger smile. "Thank you. Do you…want to join me?"
The boy regarded her for a much too long amount of time. Avery wished that she could read minds because she had no clue what was bouncing around in his head. How had she become his enemy? What could he possibly think that she could do to him? Gods, she had trouble standing on a wet floor, she would be useless in any sort of fight. Was this about her being a Greek? She hadn't a clue. Avery was waiting, essentially, to find out if her status among the living was going to change when he threatened her once more. His hand held aloft as he offered it to her. Avery put her hand in his, using his steady form to help herself up. She spoke low enough for him to hear, no smiles on her face, just the words outright and straightforward. "You don't have to prove anything to me." She still had one of her hands in his as her other removed a piece of food from herself, putting it into the nearest trash bin that she could reach while leaning over and not moving.
The boy asked if she was making fun of him and Avery's brows pulled together in confusion. She couldn't fathom how in the hades he would have gotten that assumption but it was apparent that something had gotten lost in translation somewhere. The smile faltered as she shook her head. "No. I wouldn't-" The words fell away as the boy turned to her, looking every bit as intimidating and frightening as all of her Greek bunk-mates made them out to be. Avery's smile had turned into half-pleading a moment before she fell. Landing quite solidly on the ground, she hadn't even moved to rub her elbow as the boy's face appeared before her. His eyes as promisingly deadly as the words coming out of his lips. Avery's eyes met his, forcing every bit of sincerity she had in them, "No. I promise. I would never." Avery rubbed her elbow, her rear-end also protesting to the blunt-force fall though there wasn't much she could do to help that situation. "I thought maybe you'd like to have lunch together, that's all." A soft smile came to her lips, her shoulders giving a shrug.
The boy was looking at her as if she was an apparition come to life and Avery wasn't quite sure what to do. The whole situation was far too hilarious for her to be angry or upset so of course the smile remained on her face. She wondered if perhaps he was some sort of child from a death god, but she was still very much in the land of the living so she didn't worry over it. He barked out a no to her offer and she quirked her lips to the side. "Please? I could use the company. I'm starting a veterans of food fight wars table and I need members." She grinned again before admitting defeat and slowly taking her hand off of him, intending to leave him be. As she took a step though, her feet slipped once more, losing her balance.
