Yes. You read that right. Greece has fallen...or at least the camp that has catered to Greek demigods for over three millennia has fallen. Camp Half-Blood had a traitor in their midst. A traitor with powerful allies who quickly burned the camp to the ground. Some were lost, some killed, and the rest who remained began the long trek across the country to the only place where they might be safe: Camp Jupiter.
Chiron banded what campers they had left, told them of the other camp and sent word to Camp Jupiter pleading for shelter. Chaos now threatens the camp daily with the arrival of new Greek campers to this foreign camp. This camp with strange customs and rules. While on the Roman end the Praetors are forced to hold up a balancing act of providing sanctuary while also trying to find the traitor before their home suffers the same fate as Camp Half-Blood.
New alliances are forged, new enemies are made, and these two worlds have to find some way to work together for the future of them all. Which side are you on? Which position will you take? It's time to jump in the fray because Greece has fallen.

[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid rolled her eyes, "You're just saying that because you never thought of doing it, clearly." the blonde responded, she really did believe Mateo, that he only ever stole for his own gain and no one else's, but it was amusing to insist otherwise, just to get a reaction out of him. "You could make so much money as a street magician though, just think of the profit!" the demigod responded, surely the thief could see the benefit in busking that way.[break][break]
The Centurion shook her head, "I don't know if I'd call your ideas genius, per se." she replied, fist raised to her chin as she pretended to think about what would be a better descriptor for the Son of Laverna's 'ideas'. "I think maybe harebrained might be a better term to describe your ideas, Kerčić." Hawke responded, the fake smile returning once again, just because he was able to get away with his thefts didn't mean they were good ideas. Frequently they were awful ideas, at least for those affected by them, considering the negative impact was rarely outweighed by the amusement that others, namely Mateo, gained from the antics.[break][break]
The vindictive smirk on the other demigod's face did not go unnoticed by the daughter of Victoria, he only looked like that when he was going to do something stupid, impulsive, or both. Considering the current position the two of them were in, Astrid wasn't sure she liked the potential of any of those things. The blonde's breath caught in her chest as Mateo kissed her, she certainly hadn't been wrong that he'd be doing something impulsive. Hawke's brain was short-circuiting at this point, but hormones and instincts took over and she returned the kiss--something she didn't even know she knew how to do considering she'd certainly never done it before. Mateo had been right about one thing--he managed to shut the daughter of Victoria up quite well.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid snorted in response, "I'm sure everyone loved the resident kleptomaniac." she retorted, "Let me guess, you'd steal things from girls and then 'find them later' in order to get them to like you." the blonde offered with air quotes. It seemed all too likely that Mateo was the kind of person that would do that just to garner the favor of others, she wouldn't be surprised if he had done it to the teachers as well. Most mortals didn't notice when demigods used their powers and there was no doubt the son of Laverna had used that to his advantage.[break][break]
"I know the thought of you never getting to see me in a shirt from middle school pains you, but I'm sure you'll get through it." Hawke responded, she was fairly sure he didn't actually want to see her in the shirt, but it was too good of a quip to not use it. The blonde's brow furrowed at his next statement, "If you plan on contacting my dad for it I don't think he answers calls from randos across the country." she replied, it likely wasn't his train of thought but she really wasn't sure what else to say to something as open-ended as that.[break][break]
The Centurion inhaled sharply at the sudden contact, she certainly hadn't been expecting that. With no choice but to look up at the other demigod, the daughter of Victoria settled for returning Mateo's gaze as he spoke. "I-" the blonde began, before cutting herself off at the feeling of the son of Laverna thumbing her piercing. Hawke swallowed before finally regaining her speaking ability. "It's going to take a bit more than that to stop me from talking." Astrid finally made out, her eyes still locked on Mateo's as she struggled a bit to keep her voice level with the current disadvantage she was sitting at.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid rolled her eyes, "I'm sure you held much more honorable positions in school." she replied, "Something like most detentions given in a year or least amount of classwork done." the blonde added. "Only you would find a shirt that said 'hall monitor' on the front sexy, Kerčić, unfortunately for you it's at my dad's house back home." she responded, surely he wouldn't actually think something as dorky like that would be attractive? It definitely wouldn't fit Hawke now, considering how long ago that was--it'd probably barely reach her midriff really, assuming she could still get it over her head.[break][break]
The blonde was now definitely regretting the wall choice, the Tepidarium's heat was not being kind to her, but she refused to give up her one foothold in the baths. For whatever reason having the wall behind her made her feel a bit less vulnerable, not quite as exposed. In an effort to relieve some of the heat, the demigod quickly pulled her hair up into a ponytail, her hand grazing the silver industrial piercing in her left ear as she used one of her reclaimed hair ties from Mateo's jacket, a few strands of hair still framing her face.[break][break]
Hawke placed a hand over her chest in mock offense, "Now I'll have to carry this conversation all by myself, that's no way to treat a lady." the Centurion quipped, bringing her hand back down as the other demigod moved closer. Instinctively, the daughter of Victoria tensed at the proximity, but did her best not to show it. She chose instead to hold the son of Laverna's gaze as he neared her, eyes silently daring him to do whatever he was planning. Hawke was genuinely curious as to whatever Mateo wanted to do at this point, even if it meant there was anxiety bubbling in her stomach at the thought.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid graced Mateo with yet another of her fake smiles at the hall monitor comment, though it really wasn't very far off. "I actually was a hall monitor, in middle school." she admitted, should she be freely giving this information to the other demigod? Probably not, but the anecdote was amusing enough that she felt like sharing, and it would maybe have some of the added benefits of relieving some of her anxiety. "Got the position because I'm a fast runner, never would have guessed it was because I've got divine blood though." To be honest the blonde wasn't really sure why being a fast runner qualified her as a hall monitor, but she supposed it also had to do with her general tendency to follow rules.[break][break]
Hawke had to admit she was surprised that Mateo hadn't done anything....well like himself just yet. This meeting was definitely very different than their typical interactions, aside from the usual banter between the two. She was regretting leaning on the hot wall, but it wasn't enough to burn her, only provide slight discomfort and she refused to show any of that at the risk of losing whatever this challenge from the son of Laverna entailed.[break][break]
The Centurion raised a brow as Mateo removed his hoodie, just as he had done earlier with her own, he wasn't wearing anything underneath--she tried her best to not think about how nice his toned chest looked and decided to even the playing grounds a bit instead. Pushing forward from the wall for a moment, the blonde removed her Camp shirt, leaving her in her bra and shorts, her navel piercing glinting in the dim light before she returned to her spot on the wall. "You're not doing a very good job of not making a sound, as always, Kerčić." Astrid pointed out, it wasn't entirely true--the other demigod was good at staying quiet, but if she was around usually he was antagonizing her verbally, not that she didn't return the favor.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid scrunched her nose at the remark, "Unlike you I actually have a reason for being up this late." the blonde replied, "Some of the Greeks decided it would be fun to hang around the mess hall far after dinner services had ended and I had to escort them back to their cohort like they were kindergartners." she elaborated as she rather stiffly set down her bag. Mateo was still wearing all of his clothing it seemed, leaving Hawke at a disadvantage as to what she should even do now that she came to the baths. The demigod certainly still needed to bathe but the son of Laverna's intentions were still unclear as to what exactly they'd be doing in the baths to make her be 'loud', for all she knew he'd stab her for the fun of it and leave. [break][break]
Whether it was from the anxiety of the situation or the heated climate of the Tepidarium, Astrid was getting far too hot in Mateo's jacket and removed it, neatly folding it on top of her bag before it became too much to handle. "So what exactly were your plans for this evening then, Kerčić?" the Centurion asked, leaning against a wall rather awkwardly while she tried her best to look casual. "You're not exactly dressed for the water." the blonde pointed out, not that she really was just yet either. [break][break]
"I have to say I'm not quite seeing anything that would make me 'loud' as of yet, so you seem to be losing this particular challenge." Hawke added, placing the term loud in air quotes. The daughter of Victoria hoped that'd be enough to goad the thief into revealing whatever his true intentions were, she really couldn't pin down what he was thinking at any point the majority of the time unless it involved him stealing something of hers--that was always an easy tell after years of living in close quarters with him.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid not looking forward to tonight's meeting would be an understatement. It wasn't that she didn't trust Mateo, well that wasn't true--she didn't trust Mateo one bit, she'd known him long enough not to trust him as far as she could throw him--but her anxiety about the situation was what was really causing her the most distress. The blonde still wasn't sure exactly what the son of Laverna's intentions regarding this situation was, for all she knew it could be one of his very many tricks with the intention of humiliating her, or something else entirely. Regardless, Hawke was on edge, and that tension was affecting her rounds.[break][break]
The Centurion had put a clean Camp t-shirt under Mateo's jacket after dinner, she wouldn't be taken seriously with half her torso exposed and Dareios would likely blow a gasket if she wasn't wearing something representing the camp for her duties. There were several Greeks milling about near the Mess Hall well after curfew that she had to corral back to their cohort--even if they were adjusting to a new camp it was no excuse to not follow basic camp rules. A glance at her watch told the daughter of Victoria that she was nearing the rendezvous time she had set with Mateo, just five minutes before they were meant to meet--hopefully he wouldn't mind her being a bit late.[break][break]
Hawke didn't really know why she cared if the other demigod thought poorly of her for being late, he'd probably be late himself knowing his habits. After one last patrol route through the lower portion of the camp, the blonde decided she'd be good to go to the baths, her bag with a change of clothes already over her shoulder. A perk of being a Centurion was that she didn't have to sneak around in order to get to the baths, unlike Mateo. Another glance at the watch on her wrist told the demigod that she was already five minutes late and it seemed Kerčić had beaten her to the punch. "Sorry I'm late." Hawke announced her presence, walking into the Tepidarium.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid rolled her eyes, "It is my hoodie," she confirmed, "but the NHL sells gear with my dad's name and number on it, the particular hoodie you were wearing earlier was a gift from my dad just before I left for camp." the blonde elaborated. Mateo likely didn't care, but it was odd that he didn't know about merchandising for sports teams--it wasn't that uncommon, surely he had seen people wearing football jerseys before? Merchandising aside, it was a point of pride for the demigod that her dad was a hockey player, wearing his jerseys made her feel more connected to him, especially considering she rarely, if ever, saw him since she started living at Camp Jupiter.[break][break]
Hawke chose not to dignify Mateo's comment about making her clothing fit. On one hand, she really didn't want to see him ruining her clothes, but on the other, she didn't want to give him any more ideas on how to do that. Maybe she could hide her more fitted clothes so the other demigod wouldn't be able to find them in order to do so, probably in another Cohort just to be sure. The thief was far too skilled in finding her belongings otherwise.[break][break]
The daughter of Victoria really shouldn't have been surprised that Mateo was laughing at her, it was all he ever did it seemed. She'd screwed up and revealed her complete and utter naivete regarding anything sexual and that slip up would certainly come back to bite her in the gluteus maximus several times over, if their interactions in the past were anything to go by. Hawke was sure that Mateo would be the exact kind of person to harp on a typo in a groupchat until the end of time, which made her extra glad there wasn't any sort of electronic communication to be utilized at camp--especially considering her dyslexia.[break][break]
In an effort to get as far away from the son of Laverna as possible, Astrid found a table with some of the other Centurions, knowing the other demigod would likely never go so far as to sit with the authority figures at camp--unless with the intention of stealing from them. The blonde was already feeling anxious about the challenge she'd accepted, with Mateo 'making her scream' could be anything from something sexual or just attacking her, he certainly wasn't above doing either. Hawke decided instead to try and catch up with the other Centurions, keeping the topic away from her choice of jacket for the night. Whatever Mateo's intentions were would be revealed at the baths, and thinking about them could wait until then.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] It took all of Astrid's willpower to not hide her face in her hands, Mateo was far too skilled at taking things she said out of context and her words were coming back to bite her in the gluteus maximus. "That's not at all what I meant, but you keep on thinking that." the blonde finally responded, her fake smile resurfacing once again. The demigod raised a brow, "You see, Kerčić, when you play sports they give you jerseys with your last name on it." Hawke began, explaining as if she were talking to a child. "The hoodie you stole from me, and anything else from the Blackhawks has my dad's name and number on it, because he plays for that team." she continued, her tone only growing more patronizing as she continued, "Any other jerseys I have with my last name on them are from sports I played, like volleyball and hockey." she finished, hopefully, that helped clear up his confusion a bit. "As to which jersey, the only one that'd likely fit you is one of the 'Hawks jerseys, seeing as my personal jerseys are from high school and you'd probably tear those apart at the seams." the Centurion added. If he had really wanted to show off, the sleeveless volleyball jersey with her number 16 on the back was the way to go, but she wasn't risking the larger demigod breaking something she valued so much.[break][break]
The blonde certainly must have looked confused at Mateo's reply until she finally understood what he had been implying in the first place, hiding her reddening face in her hands while trying to disguise it as a facepalm in an attempt to avoid further embarrassment. The Centurion wasn't always the best at picking up on innuendos and she certainly looked like an idiot for missing that one, "I'm just...going to pretend you didn't say that." Hawke decided, removing her hands from her face, she refused to admit to the son of Laverna that she was frequently clueless with anything regarding romance, especially considering she hadn't quite figured out why that was just yet and she didn't need him psychoanalyzing her.[break][break]
On the other hand, there were times that the demigod picked up on innuendos, and it seemed as though she had thrown Mateo off with her response, even for just a second. Unfortunately, it had been only a second, and Mateo managed to very loudly say something stupid as they approached the Mess Hall, her cheeks reddening once again. "I've got no idea what you're talking about." the blonde insisted. In all honesty she really didn't have a clue, Astrid had never dated anyone nor explored...anything in that context and she had just wanted to return the banter, not entirely thinking of the connotations. The idea of Mateo taking control wasn't...entirely offputting, but the daughter of Victoria quickly shoved that thought away to something she could unpack later with...everything else. Hawke tensed as the son of Laverna got close to her once again, "Sure Kerčić, whatever helps you sleep at night." she responded, the fake smile on her face once again.[break][break]
Astrid grimaced as Mateo all but shouted at her again, garnering looks from those around her. As much as she wanted to have the last word, she was unable to think of anything that would have even made sense to what he had said. Instead, Hawke opted for flipping the other demigod off across the Mess Hall as she walked off to get her own food, not quite caring who saw. The daughter of Victoria needed to think about anything that wasn't Mateo Kerčić before their meeting tonight rolled around.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid scoffed, she knew by now it was pointless to try and get around the other demigod's gaslighting. As long as she knew what he said that was all that really mattered, fighting the notion that he hadn't would be a waste of time and breath that for once she could care less about, perhaps Mateo's lifestyle had been rubbing off on her, just a bit. The son of Laverna's next statement, however, the Centurion couldn't resist being nitpicky about. "Technically they did see you in it topless, considering you hadn't been wearing a shirt underneath, even if they weren't aware of it." the blonde pointed out, "You can't be topless the way I am in a pullover hoodie anyway." the demigod added, it almost certainly didn't matter to Mateo but she couldn't avoid revealing the fallacies in his logic. "At least wear my jersey the next time you do it so you don't stretch out another one of my shirts." Hawke replied, she knew she clearly couldn't stop him from taking her clothing, and he seemed eager to do so. After all, it only seemed fair that he be allowed to do so while she had his jacket.[break][break]
The blonde looked up directly into Mateo's eyes, determined not to let his height advantage give him all the power in this situation. It was bad enough she was probably short enough that he could haul her over his shoulder with little to no effort, she needed some kind of advantage over the thief. Astrid rolled her eyes at his remark, "Sure, and I'm the Praetor, keep living in your delusions, Kerčić." she responded. The demigod raised a brow at Mateo's next comment, "I mean you'd be caught with me, so probably Castor, from the Third Cohort?" she responded, after six years at camp she hoped Mateo would have a better grasp on the hierarchy of the Legion, clearly she couldn't give out punishment for something she was complicit in--not to mention he'd never actually follow anything she told him to do. "Did you hit your head when I tackled you earlier? Do I need to take you to the infirmary?" she questioned, he couldn't have been that dumb, could he?[break][break]
Hawke huffed again at Mateo's callout, he'd clearly achieved whatever goal he had set for himself on getting a rise out of her. The son of Laverna had been prodding her all night waiting for this she supposed, she didn't even know what she was supposed to say in response to that, settling on the glare she'd been directing at him already. The blonde felt her cheeks heat up once again at his second comment, refusing to turn around and give him the satisfaction. Instead, she decided a verbal response was best. "Seems like that's more of something you're waiting to do later tonight." Astrid called back, she knew exactly what he had been implying with that particular comment and he'd be sorely disappointed if he expected that from her during their...meeting. That's what it was, a meeting, at midnight...at the baths. Nothing damming...right?[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Of course Mateo had brushed off Astrid's statement, he certainly didn't actually care about people beyond their possessions, his interactions with her were proof of that. She supposed he saw everyone as walking opportunities for him to steal from, just victims of his klepto tendencies. Honestly, she'd be surprised if there was anyone in camp he hadn't stolen from yet, maybe the newly arrived Greek campers considering he certainly wasn't one to go and socialize of his own free will, and Astrid hadn't made the Fourth Cohort perform their niceties in welcoming the other camp just yet--on that thought, maybe she should do it when Mateo's busy just to save them from his thieving.[break][break]
The blonde tensed as the son of Laverna began appraising her, her abdomen instinctively tightening and her breath stilling with the sudden proximity of his hand. Usually, they were only this close if one of them was attacking the other and she half expected the other demigod to produce a knife from under his sleeve and shank her, if only just for his own personal amusement as a consequence of Astrid letting down her guard. "Well, I only take it out when bathing, so the chances of that happening are astronomically low." Hawke retorted with a polite smile, still not quite sure of his intentions with being quite so close to her.[break][break]
Astrid huffed again, this time just mildly irritated. "You act as though you weren't traipsing around camp in a hoodie with my last name on it earlier." she pointed out, "I believe you said no one would ever believe anything regarding the two of us because of our hatred for each other, or something to that effect?" the blonde added, it wasn't an exact quote but it was close enough to the sentiment Mateo had excused himself with earlier. Hawke quickly felt much smaller as the other demigod stepped closer to her, his height practically towering over her and it was soon apparent why. The son of Laverna realized he could goad her with a challenge, something she couldn't turn down. Despite her current disadvantage the shorter demigod willed her voice to stay even, "Fine, the baths, tonight, midnight. Don't get caught." she responded, setting the terms with a pointed glare. He knew her parentage wouldn't allow her to turn the challenge down, and the blonde wasn't about to disgrace her lineage even if the situation made her feel pulled in several directions, none of them particularly clear.[break][break]
Hawke felt her hair falling out of the ponytail she had put it in and assumed her hair tie had broken again, until Mateo rather suspiciously pushed a few of the strands forward before shoving his hand in her (his?) pocket. Astrid quickly spun around to face him, her now loose hair moving haphazardly as she grabbed the front of the other demigod's hoodie to capture his attention, "Don't touch my hair, Kerčić." the Centurion warned, the steel in her blue gaze apparent before she let go and continued towards the mess as they had been. It was bad enough he had removed her hair tie, but touching her hair was, well, a hair too far for her.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid rolled her eyes, her nose scrunching at the nickname 'Hawkey', "Casing other people to be victims of your kleptomania is not caring about them, you care about their possessions." she pointed out. Deep down, the daughter of Victoria supposed she somewhat envied Mateo's ability to not care, she was constantly worrying about the well-being or opinions of others and genuinely wasn't able to allow herself not to do so. It must be blissful to be able to just worry about yourself, even if it was just every once in a while, it might even be worth it to ask Mateo for a few tips on how to do so, should she ever need to take a day for herself...maybe.[break][break]
Hawke raised a brow at the son of Laverna's question, "If you enjoy it so much I can keep stealing your clothes." the blonde offered with a shrug, she was sure he had other clothes that would make for suitable coverups in the future. "You may actually have been right about not needing to shrink this jacket to fit me." she admitted, moving the side of the jacket out as if inspecting it and inadvertently exposing more of her skin. "It's quite comfortable right now, even if it's not what I'm usually used to." the demigod added, "Not sure if the navel piercing goes with it or not though, to be honest, it might be a bit overkill." Astrid finished, scrunching her nose again. The Centurion was rambling at this point, but a part of her was genuinely interested in Mateo's reaction and even input to how his jacket looked on her, and she certainly hadn't expected to care quite this much, or at all even. Astrid definitely wasn't sure how to process whatever was causing the sudden need for validation from the other demigod, but that could be unpacked later when she had the time to do so. [break][break]
If Astrid had been drinking anything she surely would have spat it out at that particular comment from Mateo. The demigod could feel the heat rising in her cheeks, dusting them a pale shade of red. "Gods Mateo you can't just say that!" the blonde finally made out, her voice sounding what must have been at least an octave higher than normal. She didn't know what else she could say to a comment like that. The implication of the two of them doing anything in the baths together had her head spinning, he had to have been kidding--right? The other demigod certainly didn't seem like he'd stop hating her, or maybe strongly disliking her was a better word for it, anytime soon but that remark certainly had Hawke doubting his intentions for once.[break][break]
The daughter of Victoria let out a rather indignant huff at the jab, "My hair ties would go missing far before I started coming to camp, so don't think you're special for taking them." the blonde responded, "It's just the way the world works when you have long hair, hair ties are consistently eaten by the void never to be seen again." Astrid elaborated, though it appeared that the void at Camp was Mateo's pockets. "A large quantity are mine, I can tell because no one else uses rubber hair ties like I do." Hawke retorted, it was rare that anyone else used the hair ties she did as they weren't conventional considering they'd pull out strands of hair if used improperly, but they were the only kind that kept her hair in place when doing any kind of sports, so she kept with the method that worked.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] The news of the Greek Camp's collapse had been shocking, to say the least, considering most at Camp Jupiter hadn't even known that the other camp existed--though that was apparently by design. While Astrid hadn't really cared about any sort of rivalries with the Greeks, she was admittedly a bit anxious about how many new campers they'd be getting in such a short time. Camp Jupiter had enough space to house one army, but two may have been pushing the envelope just a bit too far, and spreading their resources too thin. Regardless, the Centurions had plenty of time on their side to prepare for these new arrivals, considering the trek across the country wouldn't be a short one. It was likely then that many of the Greeks would show up with the clothes on their backs and not much more.[break][break]
The daughter of Victoria was more than happy to help out with getting welcome packages together for the Greeks, she'd certainly appreciate it if she were in their shoes. This however meant they needed welcome brochures tailored to the Greeks, meaning a revision of their usual pamphlet that blatantly expressed their distaste for their new friends--which really was tacky to begin with, advertising a thousands of years old grudge to people who had no possible knowledge of the conflict. With the revisions, Astrid found herself exiting a print shop in New Rome she hadn't even been aware of prior to being instructed to retrieve the pamphlets, wide boxes stacked five high until they reached just below her chin, hopefully enough for all of their new arrivals.[break][break]
Hawke was confident that she wouldn't have been able to navigate through New Rome on her way back to the barracks if she didn't have years of practice with fancy footwork on ice, considering the boxes in her arms were almost impairing her sight, but only almost. Narrowly avoiding collision with a Legionnaire entering the city, the Centurion gave Terminus a respectful nod as she crossed the Pomerian Line backwards before righting herself and quickening her pace down the Via Praetoria towards the Barracks. While the blonde had never been to the Second Cohort as far as she could remember, Noah had offered the space, and she wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to spend some time outside of the Fourth for once.[break][break]
Initially, the daughter of Victoria expected she'd be late, considering how long she had been held up at the print shop trying to explain they needed the new pamphlets rather than the thousands of already printed welcome brochures, but it seemed she arrived only shortly after the other Centurion seeing as he was just setting his own boxes down when she entered the barracks. Astrid snorted in response to the suggested warning, "I'm sure they'll do a good enough job of self-identification even without the warning, from what I've heard." the demigod replied with a smirk as she made her way over to what seemed to be their prep area. Really the only thing she had heard regarding the Greeks aside from their sudden loss of a home was that they weren't particularly organized, a quality that will certainly stand out compared to the Roman Legionnaires.[break][break]
In response to the son of Apollo's question, Astrid set her five boxes from the print shop down adjacent to the t-shirt boxes. "Brand new welcome guides, hot off the press and revised of the...questionable anti-Greek sentiment the old brochures had." the blonde responded as she opened the first box and retrieved one of the pamphlets to show the other Centurion. "Would have been a bit of an issue if we were still handing out the ones saying to Never trust a Graecus." she added, that sentiment certainly wouldn't have conveyed the friendly welcome they were attempting to give to the other camp. "Was there anything else on the list that we need to get before we get started?" Hawke asked, it seemed like t-shirts and welcome brochures for people who just lost their homes would be a bit...insulting, to say the least, even if Camp Jupiter was offering a place to stay for the displaced Greeks.[break][break]
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Through Mateo's mocking laughter, Astrid wondered if she'd ever really have a day where she wouldn't be antagonized by the other demigod, if even just for a minute. She couldn't recall a time when they weren't at each others throats, whether it was instigated by herself or by Mateo. It didn't take her long to realize that the son of Laverna would never grant her such a thing under any circumstances, judging by the past six years of evidence supporting such a conclusion. On the other hand, it guaranteed that the Fourth Cohort was never boring, even if it was at the expense of the daughter of Victoria's peace of mind.[break][break]
The blonde rolled her eyes, "I think you've known me long enough by now to know when I'm not calm." Hawke countered, her not being calm was tackling him not that long ago, or that time she used laurel leaves as a garrote. This was more of a...mild agitation, not that she'd ever admit it to Mateo, or anyone else for that matter--she was far too stubborn to admit she was shaken by anything, especially with her Centurion position. Astrid snorted, "Trust me, I'm well aware of your inability to care for others, I have no doubt you'd abandon the rest of us in the blink of an eye if we were to get attacked like the Greeks were." she replied rather bluntly. Should the Centurion have said it? Maybe not, but it was true, and it felt good to actually have said it to Mateo's face, even with the slight twinge of guilt that pooled in the pit of her stomach after having said it.[break][break]
Astrid shrugged, "Not like I haven't walked around camp like this before." the blonde countered, "Just because you haven't seen me in a short top with my flannel over it doesn't mean everyone else hasn't." it really wasn't all that uncommon for the daughter of Victoria to do so after an intense workout, she frequently overheated and the easiest solution to stay within the camp's dress code was throwing her red flannel over her sports bra. Of course, Mateo's jacket would be an entirely different situation, considering it wasn't hers, but she certainly wasn't concerned about anyone seeing her exposed skin--at least not her midriff.[break][break]
The Centurion rolled her eyes, "I prefer to bathe alone, actually, it's nice to get some peace and quiet and you certainly wouldn't help with that." she responded, a half-truth really. Bathing was really some of the only alone time she ever had, and she always felt anxious whenever anyone else was around, likely a side effect of growing up an only child. She'd certainly used the fact that she wasn't bound to the same curfew as a Centurion to her advantage when it came to using the baths. Hawke shoved her hands in the pockets as she followed Mateo out of the barracks in an effort to pull the much too large jacket closer to her, only to find something of hers inside. "You've been stealing my hair ties???" the blonde accused, blue eyes narrowed as she pulled out a handful of the item in question. Her hair ties had been gradually disappearing and she just assumed that they'd been lost, certainly not stolen by her cohort's resident kleptomaniac, though she supposed she really should have figured that out sooner.[break][break]

[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Somehow Mateo's silence was now even more unnerving than his commentary was. Astrid knew he hated any mention of her position within the Cohort, and she wasn't one to neglect using that to her advantage. Of course, that advantage only stretched so far, the son of Laverna was far from a model Legionnaire, and, considering she was the one in charge, he predictably hardly ever took what she said seriously. At this point, the Centurion was sure that the only way he'd listen to her was if they were under attack and even then it was doubtful he'd do anything aside from abandoning the rest of the cohort to save his own skin.[break][break]
Hawke shifted uncomfortably under Mateo's gaze, if he kept staring at her chest any longer she'd likely take back her word and actually strangle him with the laurel. Despite his clear dislike for the daughter of Victoria, it seemed as though his baser instincts couldn't be ignored, and that was something that Astrid fully intended to use to her advantage. The blonde met Mateo's gaze with a glare of her own, her blue eyes hopefully not betraying her emotions. She was sure that if there was one thing the other demigod liked more than screwing with her it was watching her squirm.[break][break]
Of course he was laughing at her, she'd barely been able to function, and with his actions at the root of her plight he'd find it amusing. "I am calm, Kerčić." the blonde bit back, making no attempt to hide the anger in her voice. Hawke was more than capable of taking care of herself and she wasn't afraid to take the initiative to prove that point if she needed to. The demigod rolled her eyes, "Your jacket, right, nice save." she responded, she didn't buy it. "For a moment you almost had me convinced you cared about someone's wellbeing aside from your own." While she had admittedly been defensive, it was near impossible not to be when around the son of Laverna.[break][break]
While Mateo was occupied with...whatever he was doing at his bunk, Astrid took the opportunity to put her 'Hawks hoodie at her own bunk, putting it on her bedspread rather than hanging it as she usually would. Ideally, she'd take off this ridiculous jacket and put it on as she had intended on doing when she arrived at the barracks, but she needed to commit to wearing the jacket if she was to avoid any push back from Mateo. Catching a glance of herself in the small mirror she had set up near the bunk, the blonde decided that having it zipped this way looked ridiculous. She pulled the zipper all the way down again before returning to Mateo's bunk, pushing the strand of hair he had pulled on back behind her ear again, just behind her industrial piercing.[break][break]
Hawke inhaled sharply at the question, "Well, I was going to head to the baths after retrieving my hoodie, but I don't intend to bathe with you, so I suppose the dining pavilion would be ideal considering it's almost time for dinner." the Centurion reasoned. She could take a bath after dinner if she needed to but she certainly wasn't going to risk Mateo seeing any more of her skin than he already had. Astrid knew it wouldn't be very conventional for the two of them to be walking through the camp, but part of her wanted people to see the laurel crown upon Mateo's head and for them to know exactly where it came from. She hated to admit it, but he wore the crown well, even if it wasn't placed properly at all.[break][break]

[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid scoffed in response to Mateo's accusation, wearing a jacket like this to bed would be insanely uncomfortable, and just the thought of it made her skin crawl. "No you idiot," the blonde replied with an indignant roll of her eyes, "It gets a bit chilly when I'm doing rounds after everyone else has gone to sleep, I could use the extra warmth then." the demigod explained. Did Hawke need to explain herself in this situation? Likely not, but she refused to let Mateo get away with having the upper hand in this situation, especially when he insinuated that she'd be wearing his clothes to bed. Just because he had napped in her hoodie didn't mean she'd do the same.[break][break]
The Centurion tried to not make it too obvious that she was watching Mateo for his reaction, it wasn't as though he hadn't unabashedly done the same to her several times, but watching him now wouldn't help her convince him she hadn't been suspicious. In all honesty, the crown wasn't an attempt to hurt him. Embarrass him at dinner maybe, but certainly not to physically harm the son of Laverna, she had done enough of that for the day and it'd be overkill to try again so soon. It'd be a waste of energy to do so.[break][break]
Hawke finally just huffed in response, becoming frustrated with the other demigod's blatant obtuseness. "Gods Kerčić, if I wanted to poison you I would have done it already." the blonde countered, she really had no malicious intentions with this gesture, laurel crowns were her mother's symbol, and the one time she had poisoned him really had been accidental. Aside from that, they were a great accessory, and everyone in camp would know who made it, considering there weren't any other Victoria kids running around. As far as Astrid knew, she was an only child here at Camp Jupiter, just like she had been at home.[break][break]
Astrid narrowed her eyes as Mateo stood, her brow furrowing as she tried to figure out why he had gotten up from his bunk only to find out it was so he could get way too close to her. The blonde inhaled sharply as his hands traveled towards her midriff, immediately tensing up at the proximity. Being shorter, the demigod didn't have much choice other than to look at Mateo so she settled for staring up into the other demigod's eyes, trying to process what the Hades was happening right now when he started zipping the jacket up, she barely registered what he had said, too confused about the jacket that was now zipped way too high for how large it was on her and Mateo tugging on her hair?[break][break]
"I-" Hawke began, cutting herself off blinking a couple of times to try and regain her train of thought. Her brain was short-circuiting from this interaction and she needed to pull the zipper down before it became suffocating, hastily unzipping it so it was under the base of her sports bra, less practical but a bit more comfortable considering the situation. "I don't need you looking out for me, Mateo." the Centurion finally got out, composing herself. "I can take care of myself." she assured him as she grabbed her hoodie from the bunk she had set it down on, she needed to do something with her hands and if it was just holding her hoodie, that would do.[break][break]
