Yes. You read that right. Greece has fallen...or at least the camp that has catered to Greek demigods for over three millennia has fallen. Camp Half-Blood had a traitor in their midst. A traitor with powerful allies who quickly burned the camp to the ground. Some were lost, some killed, and the rest who remained began the long trek across the country to the only place where they might be safe: Camp Jupiter.
Chiron banded what campers they had left, told them of the other camp and sent word to Camp Jupiter pleading for shelter. Chaos now threatens the camp daily with the arrival of new Greek campers to this foreign camp. This camp with strange customs and rules. While on the Roman end the Praetors are forced to hold up a balancing act of providing sanctuary while also trying to find the traitor before their home suffers the same fate as Camp Half-Blood.
New alliances are forged, new enemies are made, and these two worlds have to find some way to work together for the future of them all. Which side are you on? Which position will you take? It's time to jump in the fray because Greece has fallen.

There was nothing but darkness and snoring as the night deepened around Camp Jupiter. Mateo's eyes fluttered open, his body clock very attuned to what hour of the night it was. He was regularly awake at night, mostly because he was a night owl due to his parentage and also because the marching drills were regularly held at an ungodly hour of the morning and he'd rather stay up that late than wake up into it. He already wasn't a morning person - he'd be even less so if he had to look forward to mandatory marching drills with Dareios breathing fire down his back.
Silent as a cat, Mateo pushed aside his covers and rose, a zip up hoodie on over his bare upper body. Considering where he was going, he figured he didn't need the shirt, even if Hawke wasn't thinking what he was thinking. At the very least, he was going to take a dang bath, because he wasn't going to go all that way then stand around being clothed. That seemed counter-productive.
As he made his way over to the bath house, he did have to sneak around corners or pull on the tiny control he had over the darkness to cloak himself better in shadows. There wasn't anything special going on tonight, so there was only the usual patrol - Mateo was quite comfortable over their rotations considering wandering about camp at night was his regular thing. That was what being an insomniac meant, after all. The guard to pass by the entrance to the baths, his last hurdle, and then Mateo was in. As he stood at the edge of the pool in the tepidarium, he smirked to himself, wondering which would shock Hawke more: already being in the pool, or sitting outside of it - of course, in both scenarios, he was already shirtless.

[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid not looking forward to tonight's meeting would be an understatement. It wasn't that she didn't trust Mateo, well that wasn't true--she didn't trust Mateo one bit, she'd known him long enough not to trust him as far as she could throw him--but her anxiety about the situation was what was really causing her the most distress. The blonde still wasn't sure exactly what the son of Laverna's intentions regarding this situation was, for all she knew it could be one of his very many tricks with the intention of humiliating her, or something else entirely. Regardless, Hawke was on edge, and that tension was affecting her rounds.[break][break]
The Centurion had put a clean Camp t-shirt under Mateo's jacket after dinner, she wouldn't be taken seriously with half her torso exposed and Dareios would likely blow a gasket if she wasn't wearing something representing the camp for her duties. There were several Greeks milling about near the Mess Hall well after curfew that she had to corral back to their cohort--even if they were adjusting to a new camp it was no excuse to not follow basic camp rules. A glance at her watch told the daughter of Victoria that she was nearing the rendezvous time she had set with Mateo, just five minutes before they were meant to meet--hopefully he wouldn't mind her being a bit late.[break][break]
Hawke didn't really know why she cared if the other demigod thought poorly of her for being late, he'd probably be late himself knowing his habits. After one last patrol route through the lower portion of the camp, the blonde decided she'd be good to go to the baths, her bag with a change of clothes already over her shoulder. A perk of being a Centurion was that she didn't have to sneak around in order to get to the baths, unlike Mateo. Another glance at the watch on her wrist told the demigod that she was already five minutes late and it seemed Kerčić had beaten her to the punch. "Sorry I'm late." Hawke announced her presence, walking into the Tepidarium.[break][break]
If Mateo was being honest, he was a hundred percent surprised he was even here. He didn't think for a moment that Hawke would rise to his innuendo-filled bait about her being the loud one in the baths, but then again she was never one to back down from anything, and that had been a very clear challenge from the son of Laverna. Still, he wasn't actually sure what she'd expected from him. He had never crossed the line of his pranks with her into anything like that afternoon, but Mateo found himself devilishly gleeful about the potential of so many ways to mess around with the easily-riled up centurion.
The fact that this was the first time she'd come to a very private meeting that had started with the premise of a challenge? Mateo wasn't sure if it was the rivalry or something else that was making him shiver a little as he waited another minute, still undecided about how best to shock Hawke. It was definitely just the rivalry, right. Nothing at all about secret rendezvous in the middle of the nights in the baths.
Before he could make his decision on where best to drape himself, Hawke walked in. He didn't actually know that she was late, but as always Mateo took the opportunity presented to him and ran with it. With a bit of a put-upon sigh, he replied, "Five minutes and thirty six seconds, Hawke. For shame." Not that Mateo cared about tardiness - he was many things, but hypocrite was not usually one of them, and he usually came it at a solid D- for arriving to things on time. He grinned at her but stayed where he was, hands in his pockets as he stood on the edge of the pool, looking for all the world as though he was ready to slip into the water clothed.
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid scrunched her nose at the remark, "Unlike you I actually have a reason for being up this late." the blonde replied, "Some of the Greeks decided it would be fun to hang around the mess hall far after dinner services had ended and I had to escort them back to their cohort like they were kindergartners." she elaborated as she rather stiffly set down her bag. Mateo was still wearing all of his clothing it seemed, leaving Hawke at a disadvantage as to what she should even do now that she came to the baths. The demigod certainly still needed to bathe but the son of Laverna's intentions were still unclear as to what exactly they'd be doing in the baths to make her be 'loud', for all she knew he'd stab her for the fun of it and leave. [break][break]
Whether it was from the anxiety of the situation or the heated climate of the Tepidarium, Astrid was getting far too hot in Mateo's jacket and removed it, neatly folding it on top of her bag before it became too much to handle. "So what exactly were your plans for this evening then, Kerčić?" the Centurion asked, leaning against a wall rather awkwardly while she tried her best to look casual. "You're not exactly dressed for the water." the blonde pointed out, not that she really was just yet either. [break][break]
"I have to say I'm not quite seeing anything that would make me 'loud' as of yet, so you seem to be losing this particular challenge." Hawke added, placing the term loud in air quotes. The daughter of Victoria hoped that'd be enough to goad the thief into revealing whatever his true intentions were, she really couldn't pin down what he was thinking at any point the majority of the time unless it involved him stealing something of hers--that was always an easy tell after years of living in close quarters with him.[break][break]
Mateo snickered at the story about the Greeks. On one hand, it was funny because Greeks; he hadn't yet met a decent one among the lot - whoever was the one that bullied Buckles was lucky Mateo hadn't seen him yet. On the other hand, the image of Hawke shepherding a pack of bleating Greek camper sheep was hilarious. There was nothing in that situation that didn't deserve a laugh for the son of Laverna. "Aww, Hawke the hallway monitor. Has a nice ring to it." He clicked his fingers before pointing at her, as though he'd just gotten the perfect idea for her - which he had, to be fair. "I'll find one of those fluoro orange vests things and get you a stop sign."
It would highly suit Hawke, Mateo thought, not that she needed it. Her personality was always very big for the room, and he himself could hardly ignore her when she was around. Granted, it was usually because he enjoyed seeking her out to needle her, prank her, or in any way ruin her day. That was just the order of the universe for them; she might even miss him if he didn't. Mateo wouldn't be surprised in the least if she did, although he knew she would never admit it.
With a smirk at the daughter of Victoria, Mateo copied her movements and shucked his hoodie, leaving it to drop gracelessly to the floor. He was just about to make a sarcastic comment about whether or not he was now undressed satisfactorily, when Hawke spoke again, and Mateo almost lost his cool at her words. It was difficult to keep one's laughter in especially when he shouldn't be heard anywhere in camp at this time. "Dang, man. Relax. I don't plan on getting kneed in places I like very much because I move too fast." The male demigod shook his head, still chuckling. "Relax, remember? I'm supposed to not be making a sound at all."
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid graced Mateo with yet another of her fake smiles at the hall monitor comment, though it really wasn't very far off. "I actually was a hall monitor, in middle school." she admitted, should she be freely giving this information to the other demigod? Probably not, but the anecdote was amusing enough that she felt like sharing, and it would maybe have some of the added benefits of relieving some of her anxiety. "Got the position because I'm a fast runner, never would have guessed it was because I've got divine blood though." To be honest the blonde wasn't really sure why being a fast runner qualified her as a hall monitor, but she supposed it also had to do with her general tendency to follow rules.[break][break]
Hawke had to admit she was surprised that Mateo hadn't done anything....well like himself just yet. This meeting was definitely very different than their typical interactions, aside from the usual banter between the two. She was regretting leaning on the hot wall, but it wasn't enough to burn her, only provide slight discomfort and she refused to show any of that at the risk of losing whatever this challenge from the son of Laverna entailed.[break][break]
The Centurion raised a brow as Mateo removed his hoodie, just as he had done earlier with her own, he wasn't wearing anything underneath--she tried her best to not think about how nice his toned chest looked and decided to even the playing grounds a bit instead. Pushing forward from the wall for a moment, the blonde removed her Camp shirt, leaving her in her bra and shorts, her navel piercing glinting in the dim light before she returned to her spot on the wall. "You're not doing a very good job of not making a sound, as always, Kerčić." Astrid pointed out, it wasn't entirely true--the other demigod was good at staying quiet, but if she was around usually he was antagonizing her verbally, not that she didn't return the favor.[break][break]
Whispered laughter echoed around them as Hawke assured him she'd definitely been a hall monitor in school and Mateo gave that the response he thought it deserved. Shaking his head, he only grinned at Hawke as he told her sardonically "Of course you were, Hawke, I never expected anything less." The grin sharpened into a smirk as he looked her up and down, before continuing, "Did you have a sexy shirt that said 'hall monitor' on it in big block letters?" Mateo did have some pride in himself so he was definitely not going to be stealing that but it was still a very funny idea. He was sure he could think of something to do with a hall monitor shirt when it belonged to Hawke.
The centurion was clearly discomfited - by what, Mateo wasn't sure - and he watched her lean against the wall, one eyebrow quirked. Was she trying to ensure there was some distance between them? Was she feeling hunted down and so felt safer with something solid against her back? Mateo enjoyed messing around with her, for sure, but he never actually wanted to cross the line into scaring her... He wasn't some kid of some sort of fear god who got off on that. Was she just trying to look cool while trying not to back down from the challenge? If it was that, Mateo would maybe be a little more comfortable with her defensive stance.
As she glanced at his bare torso before moving to take off her shirt, though, Mateo figured it was definitely because she hadn't wanted to look like she was going to back down. How predictable for Hawke, always trying to one-up him. The reappearance of the smirk on Mateo's face came in time with a heavier glint in his eyes as it was his turn to pretend not to be affected by her bare skin. Any comment he would have made was dashed aside as Hawke jeered at him about being quiet, and he made a gesture of zipping his lips as he slowly stepped towards her.
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid rolled her eyes, "I'm sure you held much more honorable positions in school." she replied, "Something like most detentions given in a year or least amount of classwork done." the blonde added. "Only you would find a shirt that said 'hall monitor' on the front sexy, Kerčić, unfortunately for you it's at my dad's house back home." she responded, surely he wouldn't actually think something as dorky like that would be attractive? It definitely wouldn't fit Hawke now, considering how long ago that was--it'd probably barely reach her midriff really, assuming she could still get it over her head.[break][break]
The blonde was now definitely regretting the wall choice, the Tepidarium's heat was not being kind to her, but she refused to give up her one foothold in the baths. For whatever reason having the wall behind her made her feel a bit less vulnerable, not quite as exposed. In an effort to relieve some of the heat, the demigod quickly pulled her hair up into a ponytail, her hand grazing the silver industrial piercing in her left ear as she used one of her reclaimed hair ties from Mateo's jacket, a few strands of hair still framing her face.[break][break]
Hawke placed a hand over her chest in mock offense, "Now I'll have to carry this conversation all by myself, that's no way to treat a lady." the Centurion quipped, bringing her hand back down as the other demigod moved closer. Instinctively, the daughter of Victoria tensed at the proximity, but did her best not to show it. She chose instead to hold the son of Laverna's gaze as he neared her, eyes silently daring him to do whatever he was planning. Hawke was genuinely curious as to whatever Mateo wanted to do at this point, even if it meant there was anxiety bubbling in her stomach at the thought.[break][break]
Mateo's face brightened slightly even as his tone came out sarcastic. "Of course: most popular guy in school. What else would I be?" He most definitely was not, but that hadn't bothered him in the least. Besides, he hadn't needed the popularity to help with the girls, because even back then, he'd had female attention. The whole 'he pulled on your pigtails because he likes you' had permeated even grade school playgrounds, and a younger Mateo had been subjected to a lot of glittered cards and candy hearts. He, of course, had only enjoyed the attention. A vicious cycle that even he couldn't break out of.
Hawke advising him he wouldn't be able to find the hall monitor shirt amongst her things in Camp Jupiter was met with a faux disappointed sigh. "What a shame," he told her, although his voice remained even. He would have put it in a frame and hung it up above her bunk, a testament to all her achievements since she'd been a kid. Mateo thought it was a pretty funny idea, but he could always think of something else related to that part of Hawke's life. The orange vest was becoming a better alternative. "Never mind, I'm sure I can figure something else out."
As Hawke moved to pull her hair up in a ponytail, the glint of her industrial piercing caught the light again, and Mateo was now close enough to admire it even better. As he stopped right in front of the female demigod, her having to tilt her chin a little to keep her gaze on his face, Mateo smirked down at her. "You don't actually have to talk," he murmured, before raising a hand to run a thumb against the glint of silver in Hawke's ear. It had always been something he'd wanted to touch - preferably with his tongue, if he was going to be completely honest - and now that apparently Hawke wasn't going to back down from whatever he had planned for the evening, he was going to take every opportunity to do what he'd been wanting to do.
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid snorted in response, "I'm sure everyone loved the resident kleptomaniac." she retorted, "Let me guess, you'd steal things from girls and then 'find them later' in order to get them to like you." the blonde offered with air quotes. It seemed all too likely that Mateo was the kind of person that would do that just to garner the favor of others, she wouldn't be surprised if he had done it to the teachers as well. Most mortals didn't notice when demigods used their powers and there was no doubt the son of Laverna had used that to his advantage.[break][break]
"I know the thought of you never getting to see me in a shirt from middle school pains you, but I'm sure you'll get through it." Hawke responded, she was fairly sure he didn't actually want to see her in the shirt, but it was too good of a quip to not use it. The blonde's brow furrowed at his next statement, "If you plan on contacting my dad for it I don't think he answers calls from randos across the country." she replied, it likely wasn't his train of thought but she really wasn't sure what else to say to something as open-ended as that.[break][break]
The Centurion inhaled sharply at the sudden contact, she certainly hadn't been expecting that. With no choice but to look up at the other demigod, the daughter of Victoria settled for returning Mateo's gaze as he spoke. "I-" the blonde began, before cutting herself off at the feeling of the son of Laverna thumbing her piercing. Hawke swallowed before finally regaining her speaking ability. "It's going to take a bit more than that to stop me from talking." Astrid finally made out, her eyes still locked on Mateo's as she struggled a bit to keep her voice level with the current disadvantage she was sitting at.[break][break]
This time, when Mateo shook his head, it was in disbelief - disbelief that Hawke had gotten his personality so wrong. He'd never stolen things just to show off to people; he didn't care enough about other people's opinions to do anything for anyone else. "No, I always steal things because I want to, actually, Ms Know It All," he told her superciliously, a bit of a lofty look on his face. "If I took something, I wouldn't decide to just give it back. I'm not a fricking magician you find at the side of the street selling you a trick to steal your wallet." His skills weren't a game of show and tell, after all.
Mateo flicked a hand as though waving Hawke's idea away, rolling his eyes at the daughter of Victoria. "I've moved past that, Hawke; my genius ideas are endless." Besides, it was too much effort to go all the way through contacting Hawke Senior and maybe getting a response and then having to figure out how to get the shirt all the way to Camp Jupiter. There were too many possibilities and too many loose ends and Mateo just didn't think it was worth that much effort. He had plenty of better ideas already.
The smirk unfurling on his face as he watched Hawke's reaction to him was all shades of vindictive. A part of Mateo was gleeful that he had her cornered - although not completely literally, because if she backed down from the challenge and decided it was all too much, then Mateo would let her, of course, although he would mark that down as a big notch under his name in the little tally he kept by his bunk. His gaze shifted from studying the sparkle of her jewellry against his fingers, to meet her gaze when she spoke, his own eyes hooded. "I know," he told her, and he really did. Mateo fiddled with the industrial bar one more time before he finally succumbed to the temptation before him, bending down slightly to press his lips against hers.
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] Astrid rolled her eyes, "You're just saying that because you never thought of doing it, clearly." the blonde responded, she really did believe Mateo, that he only ever stole for his own gain and no one else's, but it was amusing to insist otherwise, just to get a reaction out of him. "You could make so much money as a street magician though, just think of the profit!" the demigod responded, surely the thief could see the benefit in busking that way.[break][break]
The Centurion shook her head, "I don't know if I'd call your ideas genius, per se." she replied, fist raised to her chin as she pretended to think about what would be a better descriptor for the Son of Laverna's 'ideas'. "I think maybe harebrained might be a better term to describe your ideas, Kerčić." Hawke responded, the fake smile returning once again, just because he was able to get away with his thefts didn't mean they were good ideas. Frequently they were awful ideas, at least for those affected by them, considering the negative impact was rarely outweighed by the amusement that others, namely Mateo, gained from the antics.[break][break]
The vindictive smirk on the other demigod's face did not go unnoticed by the daughter of Victoria, he only looked like that when he was going to do something stupid, impulsive, or both. Considering the current position the two of them were in, Astrid wasn't sure she liked the potential of any of those things. The blonde's breath caught in her chest as Mateo kissed her, she certainly hadn't been wrong that he'd be doing something impulsive. Hawke's brain was short-circuiting at this point, but hormones and instincts took over and she returned the kiss--something she didn't even know she knew how to do considering she'd certainly never done it before. Mateo had been right about one thing--he managed to shut the daughter of Victoria up quite well.[break][break]
So the kiss hadn't exactly been planned. While, yes, admittedly Mateo had laid down the innuendo-filled challenge, that had been his hormonal brain running on autopilot because of course Mateo would make that sort of comment, especially when it came to Hawke. He had a funny feeling she'd react hilariously to any sort of entendre, and to his glee, she had, in a very spectacular fashion. Never once did he expect her to actually a) agree to meet him, just the two of them, in the baths, and b) actually allow him to kiss her. But that was apparently what they were doing, and as soon as he started, Mateo - simple boy that he was - completely forgot about what they had just been talking about.
Never in a million years did he expect himself to kiss Hawke. Him, and her. It was like the world's funniest joke, except apparently actually kissing her was the punchline. Aside from the surprise that she had let him, Mateo actually felt her kiss him back. Distracted, with his mind rapidly descending into one-track focus of just Hawke, Mateo's palms found themselves resting on her waist. A stroke of his thumb found bare skin, and he was temporarily pulled out of his focus on Hawke as he realised just how perilous this whole situation was.
His fingers gripped her quickly before loosening again, just as he broke the kiss, although he didn't step away from her nor separate his palms from her skin. He was finding it a little hard to think, considering the hormones firing all synapses in his brain. Suddenly, there was nothing at all funny in Mateo's universe, like a switch had been thrown and everything had changed. His eyes were shadowed as they looked into Hawke's. "You still think you're not gonna back down, Hawke?" he whispered, the barest hint of the throwback to their challenge in his tone. Briefly, Mateo wondered if the sweet taste of victory if she admitted she couldn't go through with it would be worth not kissing her more.
[attr="class","ilikeyouheadsubtext"]Daughter of Victoria | Fourth Cohort Centurion
[attr="class","ilikeyoutext"] As far as kisses went, Astrid wasn't sure if they were supposed to be as intoxicating as Mateo's but if they were it seemed she had been missing out for most of her life--assuming it wasn't the swirl of emotions she was currently experiencing, though she supposed she had to give him some credit for most of those. The blonde certainly hadn't envisioned either of them in this position when the day started, especially not considering their rather...contentious history that involved antagonizing each other at every chance they got. Well, mostly Mateo antagonizing her knowing she'd rise to the bait every time.[break][break]
Hawke inhaled sharply again when the son of Laverna rested his hands on her hips as they kissed, she wasn't quite sure why that felt so good but she certainly didn't want him to stop doing it. Her own hands were where they had been when the other demigod initiated the kiss, hanging at her sides. She supposed she should do something about that, but she found herself really not wanting to screw this up, and she was fairly sure she wasn't meant to mirror Mateo's hand movements.[break][break]
The Centurion found herself not wanting to separate herself from the son of Laverna. There was a lot happening at once, anxiety mixed with bursts of serotonin from the kiss combined with confusion at the situation they'd found themselves in. Astrid laughed quietly in response to the question, her blue eyes glancing down to confirm that she was in fact still feeling his hands on her waist. "I believe you said I'd be loud, and you haven't quite accomplished that yet, have you Kerčić?" she responded, a large part of her was genuinely interested in whatever he had planned. "I've got to be honest though I feel like I'm not doing you any favors by not knowing what to do with my hands." the blonde admitted, her cheeks flushing red from her inexperience in something like this.[break][break]
It was a rare day - or evening, as it was now - that Mateo didn't know how Hawke would react. She had always been predictable to him, which was fairly understandable because he'd always been predictable to her most likely. They had settled into a routine of antagonising each other for years, of course they knew how best to poke each other's buttons - Mateo probably more than Hawke. But this was unknown territory, and while Mateo had started this as another way of bothering Hawke, suddenly it didn't feel quite so flippant.
He was a bit relieved that she hadn't walked away, though, because Mateo wasn't sure if he wouldn't have gone after her. He probably wouldn't, let's be honest, because that would be a sign of losing and Mateo didn't like to lose against Hawke. But it would have irritated him and probably made his mood worse; a moody Mateo was not a nice Mateo. Her staying definitely made things better, though, and he only tutted at her quietly and replied, "Patience, Hawke. I'm told it's a virtue and something you could stand to get better at right now."
Considering Hawke had just shown a vulnerability by admitting that she didn't know what to do with her hands, he probably shouldn't laugh, but the toothy grin couldn't be helped. He had another thing that Hawke couldn't beat him in - those were few and far between, much to his consternation - and he wasn't as graceful of a winner as he could have been. He broke their gaze, both hands lifting from her waist to run palms down both of her arms until they reached her fingers, before pulling them up to rest her wrists on his shoulders. He had a better idea of where he'd tell her to put them, but that would be for later. Smirking at the blush on her face as he turned his eyes back to her, Mateo returned his hands to her waist, lifting her up and pressing her against the wall for a better angle before returning his lips to hers.
