[ IRRITABLE ] - callan is number one that problem kid in class that's always bullied by everyone because everyone knows he's easy to set off. he is very easy to rile up, and once he starts it's very difficult to get him to calm down. he takes offense against himself pretty personally, and is also very protective and defensive of his friends. the last few years, callan has been trying to reign his anger in better, and he has had some success in not allowing himself to get sucked in - but that always has a limit.

[ RECKLESS ] - very shoot-first ask-questions-later, callan is always ready to go at the drop of a hat. it is always a good idea to come up with a solid strategy before telling callan, because he will most likely not even stay the whole time to listen to the whole plan. he should not be part of any strategy meeting, because he will be off at the first suggestion. he's pretty impatient and is always ready to just roll on in, but he's never been the type of person to make plans. callan works best as a point-and-shoot weapon.

[ VIOLENT ] - as part of his anger management issues, as well as the bullying he'd received in school, callan feels the best way to retaliate is always through violence. he doesn't care about being witty or being smart or being sarcastic - he'd much rather put his fist through your face and see if you have anything to say about him then. this has always gotten him in trouble in schools, as his classmates love to trigger him, knowing full well he can't control his violent impulses. like with his anger, callan also finds it difficult to stop fighting until he or his opponent are knocked out.

[ UNCONTROLLABLE ] - despite how predictable it is to set callan off, he's also fairly uncontrollable. he's intense, and sometimes he reads second meaning into things and gets offended by them. he might seem fairly even-keeled at first, perhaps a bit happy during breakfast, and then someone can say one thing and he's off, punching the living daylights out of them and remaining in a bleak mood for the rest of the day. he is also hard to pull back from a fight, or to talk down from an opinion he's formed, or an idea he's gotten into his head.

arlene tate hayes, sweetheart. doing the best she could with the family she had. wait, that probably sounded bad, huh. but it was the truth. she was the odd one out, the peaceful pillar in twin storms of anger that were her husband and son.

her husband cillian had always been unable to control his anger - he had thought joining the army out of high school would help. not his control, exactly, but considering he was unable to control himself, he'd at least be of use to someone, right? be of some service to something greater than himself, right? it worked for a bit, the war giving him an outlet for his angry, violent tendencies, but too many instances of blowing up against his own soldiers had him discharged dishonorably.

cillian brought the war home with him. it was what attracted him to bellona and her to him, the goddess seeing the damaged soul that yearned for more blood and violence. their brief liaison - an open secret to cillian's wife - resulted in the birth of callan. his father's violent tendencies and his mother's explosive personality culminated together in the worst combination for the ticking timebomb that was the young demigod. he was not only an angry little boy, he also struggled with the monsters that hounded him constantly.

callan's poor mother made all the excuses to his schools every time he was suspended or hauled up to the principal's office on grounds of fighting. arlene apologised to the parents of the kids he beat up, trying to patch things up always, while cillian stomped around accusing - correctly - that the kids played victim now but were really the bullies. but considering cillian was a hot-head, his accusations fell on deaf ears all the time, and when the schools had the opportunity to expel him, they took it at the earliest opportunity, if only so they didn't have to deal with callan or his father.

it was when callan was thirteen that he almost killed one of his classmates. callan had always been completely unable to control himself and his anger, not being able to start once he got into a red rage. he'd pummeled the other teenager and as they had met behind the school - the other kid obviously mortal and too cocky and no match for the demigod - and callan had been unable to stop. even the other kid's friends had received punches and kicks when they tried to stop him, callan a whirlwind of limbs and fury. that had been the last straw for cillian, who had gotten increasingly short tempered with his own son. he was shipped off to the wolf house the next morning.

lupa was unimpressed with him, despite his physical capabilities. she tried to teach him to control his anger so he could use his strengths to their utmost potential, and for a while, it worked. but regardless of what lupa tried, callan's patience was limited, and they could not move past a certain limit. deeming it the best she could do, she finally allowed him to continue on to camp jupiter. on his journey there, he met another demigod who helped him arrive to camp in one piece - travelling the whole way by himself would have surely gotten him killed or knocked out in an alley somewhere, as he'd never been able to resist rising to any kind of challenge or bait.

the roman campers were hardly thrilled when he arrived. any respect he may have received in combat training, he lost the moment he charged too early in war games or was punished for going up against a first cohort demigod on the slightest word. his very few friends are themselves on the fence if they actually like him a person, and callan finds that he doesn't care all that much. he lives for fighting and weapons and very little else, so having or not having people who like him are the least of his priorities.

[ TELUMKINESIS ] - as a son of bellona, callan has superior control over weapons. he knows how to wield pretty much any weapon that comes into his hand after a short period of time training with it, and he can also conjure weapons that he's used before. to a limited extent, he can also control others' weapons by placing a curse on them.

weaknesses: callan's weapon knowledge does rely on him still actually using and training with it. he becomes more comfortable with a weapon, and its strengths and weaknesses, the more he uses it. conjuring weapons requires focus and energy, and only works with weapons that he has used before - the more comfortable he is with a weapon, the easier it is for him to summon it. he cannot banish a weapon that he has summoned. his control of others' weapons is limited to generic weapons only: he cannot control any god-given gifts. this curse is usually some form of extreme heat or extreme weight to a weapon that might force a camper to drop it. like with conjuring a weapon, this requires a bit of focus and energy from callan.

[ MINOR DESTRUCTION ] - with bellona also being a goddess of destruction, callan has inherited some of this ability. more often than not, this is something that he can't control, and happens when he is emotionally charged and reckless. when he's in an incredibly hot rage, things around him tend to explode.

weaknesses: he has tried deliberately using this ability in controlled settings like war games, but has been met with limited success. he can and does sometimes train with this ability, but that sort of concentration and focus and patience isn't really callan's strong suit. if he were to gain proficiency with this ability, callan would find it would require a fair bit of intent and energy to blow things up around him.

[ PROWESS IN BATTLE ] - let's face it, this dude is a pretty dang good warrior, despite his recklessness and being uncontrollable. most people wouldn't really be sure if it's a good idea to have him in their team or on their side, because while callan is a good tool to have in a battle, he can prove unwieldy and may cost more than his value. still, it can't be denied that if the fates align and he is given a clear direction (and he can control himself somewhat), callan is a freaking beast.
