Yes. You read that right. Greece has fallen...or at least the camp that has catered to Greek demigods for over three millennia has fallen. Camp Half-Blood had a traitor in their midst. A traitor with powerful allies who quickly burned the camp to the ground. Some were lost, some killed, and the rest who remained began the long trek across the country to the only place where they might be safe: Camp Jupiter.
Chiron banded what campers they had left, told them of the other camp and sent word to Camp Jupiter pleading for shelter. Chaos now threatens the camp daily with the arrival of new Greek campers to this foreign camp. This camp with strange customs and rules. While on the Roman end the Praetors are forced to hold up a balancing act of providing sanctuary while also trying to find the traitor before their home suffers the same fate as Camp Half-Blood.
New alliances are forged, new enemies are made, and these two worlds have to find some way to work together for the future of them all. Which side are you on? Which position will you take? It's time to jump in the fray because Greece has fallen.

Espen wasn't a particularly competitive person. He could pull his own in any kind of combat, of course, because the alternative to that would be bruises and injuries, both to his physical body as well as to any kind of reputation he might like to have as a Roman legionnaire. Fighting was part of their blood, part of what made them demigods, so Espen could understand all that. He just didn't feel the need to actually win at every event or show off at every opportunity or push himself to his limits for the glory, unlike some people he knew in the second cohort.
Not particularly wanting to deal with the bloodthirsty competition in the combat arenas and chariot racing, and not being particularly fleet-footed, Espen's only choice for the Games was spear throwing. It was enough for him to say he'd participated, especially when he didn't really care all that much about winning. As a legionnaire, though, it was expected of him to take part in something that involved the Olympics, and so Espen found himself standing in front of the row of standard camp-issued spears, selecting one at random. He whirled it around, testing its balance and weight as he had for years. It was the exact same as the ones they used for training; there really was nothing special about these weapons at all.
As he strode over to the side, watching the current round tee up for their throw, Espen watched the other demigods participating in the Game. He knew most of them by face, of course, but he didn't always know their names - mostly because Espen wasn't the most extroverted demigod. He'd never really been one to strike up conversation first, and so he just watched the others, seeing if he could judge strengths and weaknesses just by the way they moved and the way they gripped the spears. He wasn't truly scoping out the competition - just practicing his strategic skills and seeing if he should make bets with his barrack-mates about who would win.
Claire was definitely competitive, usually when it came to proving herself to Jax. The two could get fairly rough during spars. Though did enjoy winning and fighting. She was taking part in the chariot racing later on but right now it was spear throwing. She made her way over calmly. Claire worked with spears often so it was far from unfamiliar. between that and the natural ability of using weapons when they were in her hands.
She made her way over her gaze looking over to Espen as he seemed to pick out a spear as well. She grabbed one after looking them over quickly. "Hey...participating as well?" she asked. She kind of figured but was trying to be nice. As competitive as she could be she still had a gentle side to her. She had seen him around camp being he was from first cohort. She came up beside him as she watched as other began their turns.
Most might feel anxious or nervous when participating in big events. Claire wasn't one of them. In fact she was more than eager to go. Especially later when it came down to the chariot race. Something about the excitement the competition gave was fun. It was definitely a rush.

A Roman girl came up near him to choose a spear for herself, and Espen was distracted from his contemplation of a fellow legionnaire when she asked him a question. She was familiar enough; she was one of those warrior-type demigods who Espen always saw sparring or training. Not that there were all that many different types of Romans in Camp Jupiter. But he'd seen her go up against members of his own cohort, and Espen could respect that considering what he remembered of her being from somewhere in the middle tiers. Anyone who could kick a first cohort's gluteus maximus was always worthy of some respect.
Espen grinned at her question. He supposed it would be odd to see him participating in a Game - it wasn't really his usual style. Most people would figure that a legionnaire would go for something in combat at the very least, but Espen didn't particularly feel the need to fill that stereotype. Besides, spear throwing was something new and potentially fun; if he did end up being particularly good at it, he might even make it a regular thing to practice after the Games. Espen never minded learning a new skill, and it might even be useful one day.
"Yeah, just this one," he acknowledged, his eyes back on the other Roman legionnaire he'd been looking at earlier who was now spinning the spear he'd taken, twirling it like a baton and passing it between both hands as it spun in rapid circles. Espen cracked a smirk at that - some people just couldn't resist showing off even in something like just throwing a stick with a bit of metal at the end. Bored with the other legionnaire, Espen turned his attention back to the girl - Claire, if he remembered her name correctly. "You in any of the other games today?"
Claire smiled with amusement at the other legionnaire twirling the spear. Definitely was showing off but didn't seem to really appear to help them prepare for the real event. Hopefully Claire could use her skills with a spear to help her in the event. Her attention however returned to Espen as he spoke to her. She was shocked he was just participating in the one event. Many Romans were eager to take part in everything. "Just this one?" she asked with slight curiosity.
Claire had her own smirk playing on her lips as he asked about what she was going to be participating in. "Yep chariot racing and weapons combat" she said. Claire was not one to show off like some of her siblings. Simply she was just very excited for the events. She also looked forward to her chance to prove herself. Then again as a daughter of Mars it probably wasn't even shocking.
She ran her fingers through her dark hair calmly. Her blue gaze looking to Espen. Though on occasion she would look around when people starting cheering or got loud for one reason or another. Though her attention always returned back to him. Where most would be practicing or warming up she didn't really see too much of a need to do so. She trained daily and had stretched earlier in the day.

Espen only grinned at Claire's disbelieving question. Yeah, he'd gotten that a couple of times already this morning. It was hardly very Roman of him to only take on one Game, and Espen didn't tell anyone but he was already not planning to win. He was fully expecting to fall flat due to his sheer lack of effort, be counted out early on and not make it onto a second round, then pretend to shrug his shoulders and call it a day. He'd have much more fun watching and laughing with his friends, or maybe making some bets. He'd heard one of the Greeks had a little betting pool - he might get in on that action just for the fun of it.
"Yeah, just the one," he replied breezily, the shrug implied in his tone even as he flashed his pearly whites at Claire. "I pulled the short straw and got guard duty tonight for the lantern thing. Don't want to tire myself out too much." Technically speaking a white lie; yes, he was on guard duty, but he'd actually signed up to do it when the legionnaire with the roster came knocking. The idea of being part of the festival when he had no business mourning with the Greeks... well, it just sounded horribly awkward. Espen would rather be standing and staring into the darkness for a few hours than face that.
It didn't really surprise Espen any that Claire told him she'd signed up for combat and chariot racing. Those would undoubtedly be the most competitive Games in the lot. "Good deal," he told her, flipping his spear once as he talked, hands needing to fiddle with something as usual. "You ready for the chariot race? No limits on magic and weapons, right?" That would be a chaotic bloodbath - Espen already couldn't wait to be a spectator for that show.
Claire knew not everyone was into these events. Of course there was a handful that were very into this like herself. She had signed up for a good majority of the combat events. Claire wasn't exactly fighting for glory but if she won she certainly wouldn't mind. She was trying to prover herself just as good of a fighter that her half brother in first cohort. He often viewed her as less of a fighter but she wasn't. Maybe it was why she chose the most dangerous of things to do. Prove herself capable of even the toughest of challenges.
She listened to his excuse for not doing much. "Guard duty isn't that bad. I myself don't plan to go to the lantern thing" she told him. Claire had better things to do than hang out with a ton of Greeks. Things like training or recovering from the events of the day. She didn't know how he events would play out but she certainly looked forward to the rush it gave her.
Claire felt capable of handling herself in the events to come. Being a daughter of Mars certainly helped. Most weapons she knew the basics of using and she herself was good at adapting. Though for the chariot race that was going to be interesting. She was sure the children of Vulcan were going to have some crazy things rigged up to their chariots. "I am as ready as I will ever be. It is going to be fun" she said. As confident as she came off as she was certainly a tad nervous for it. Not that she would admit to it.

It didn't surprise Espen all that much that Claire wasn't headed for the lantern festival. It was a weird thing for any Roman to go to, or so Espen felt. He suppose he could see Romans going out of respect for the fallen Greeks, he supposed, but Espen personally felt weird about going himself. Guarding the Greeks sounded like a better way to pay tribute, and a better use of his time, too. Did that sound callous? He certainly hadn't meant it to be so. He just didn't know how he could be somber and take part in that event sincerely when he hadn't actually known any of the fallen.
Espen nodded easily at Claire's reply about guard duty not being too bad, and only grinned good-naturedly at the female demigod's admission that she would be as ready as she could be for the chariot race. It did sound like a lot of fun - despite Espen's laidback attitude, at the end of the day he was still a Roman demigod and he could appreciate the violent beauty in chariot racing. He didn't know if or how the Greeks did their chariot races, but there nothing quite like the Roman way of doing it. Then again, perhaps this was the one area in which both camps reveled in their shared disregard for injury and love for violence. It might be the one place where a Greek might actually be able to hold their own. Espen was looking forward to that idea, but he wouldn't dare say it out loud, especially not to a fellow Roman.
"It's going to be a bloodbath," he said lightly, a bright grin on his face as he thought of the event. "I think I'm going to need good seats to be able to see it all." That, and he needed it to be able to place a good bet. If the Greeks ever had any tricks, the chariot race would be the place to see them. He turned appraising eyes to Claire, wondering if the third cohort girl would also bring something entertaining to the hippodrome. "Any tricks up your sleeve?"
Claire didn't really have a reason to be at the lantern festival like others. Besides she didn't exactly like or trust the Greeks very much so keeping her distance seemed like a good idea. Claire was not the type of person to be emotional or all about her feelings. She hid how she felt about many things behind a wall. It was her way of shutting everything up and just avoiding people asking if she was ok. She was stubborn and sharing emotions and crying was far from something she would do. The feeling of being weak was not something she enjoyed.
Claire looked forward to the rush the race was going to bring. Surely there would be Greeks involved as well. It definitely would be chaotic. Especially with everyone being allowed to use powers and their not being any rules really. She was sure this event would turn out rather bloody. Just hopefully it wouldn't turn deadly that was the last thing they needed.
"Oh I am sure it will be" she said with a laugh at his comment about needing to see it all. Who wouldn't want good seat to the race? It was going to be crazy but sometime craziness was even better than a simple race. Between the use of abilities and the fact some handy kids would be decking out their chariots with all sorts of things. "I might have a few but those are to be kept secret until the race" she told him with a grin. Of course she didn't want to spoil any surprises before the race. It would ruin the fun of it all.
[attr="class","THREAD1TAG"] WORDS (optional) Espen Bekker
Espen grinned at the promise of violence and sneaky tricks at the chariot race. Usually he wasn't one to really enjoy it, but considering it was all supposed to be in the spirit of friendly rivalry, as well as the fact that this was the chance for some of the Greeks to put their money where their mouth was, the son of Pluto was looking forward to it. Some of those Greek Mars kids talked big game; he'd like to see them go up against a real Roman warrior. Most of the legion had been holding themselves back in most - if not all - areas involving the Greeks, now they had full excuse to operate like they would have done to any other Roman. Espen wasn't particularly vindictive, but considering how often he'd seen the Greeks antagonising the legionnaires despite the Romans being the one to open their home to the refugees, well. Espen wasn't feeling as charitable as he had been when they'd first arrived.
"Looking forward to it, then," he said, pointing his weapon at the girl before stepping towards the starting as his name was called. Time to half-gluteus maximus the situation so he could go on and have fun for the rest of the day, before he had to spend his evening bored out of his mind standing at one spot for hours staring into the darkness. No monster or demigod would have the guts to attack Camp Jupiter, regardless of whether the barriers were up or down, but if it got him out of the lantern festival then it was fine. "I'll see how you go, but I might put money on you, so do your best."
With another grin, he made a saluting gesture to the girl before turning around and walking towards the starting line. The kid who'd been spinning his spear nonstop was in this line-up, and Espen smirked to himself as he watched the other demigod's stance. Entirely too showy and eager, that one. It would actually be fun to watch him win, if only because it would be so funny. As the countdown began, Espen finally turned towards the other end of the track, hefting the spear in his hand as he'd done hundreds of times before. With a sparkle in his blue eyes and a knowing smile, Espen pulled back his arm and let the spear fly.
