With a dark past (pun intended) Nikolai has become quite moody and is in a constant state of annoyance. While he's usually on the quiet side and tends to keep his distance from groups or other people, silently becoming one with every wall or tree or whatever there is to hide on, he also is more likely to speak whatever is on his mind. He's brutally honest if you want to say so. He never was one to let the shadows get him but now he's surrounded in darkness unable and too weak to free himself. There is no light to guide him or so he thinks because the only light that used to be his one and only compass to what one would consider a stable life, has been gruesomely taken away from him.[break][break]

Nikolai isn't the biggest fan of group activities and prefers solitude when working, exercising, or just eating lunch. Once a skilled fighter he now prefers to hide his abilities. He never minded being a child of Hades, the god of the Underworld, darkness himself, but ever since he returned from that one quest where everything, everything, went wrong, he can't help but hate his father and his whole heritage. A victim of bullying since he was a child and even at camp has left its marks. Hades never was popular to begin with and being his kid, of course, came with fingers pointing at him but now that he has the blood of his quest members, his dearest friends, sticking to his hands upon his return, the finger-pointing returned to full action. They blamed him for the failure, they didn't even consider other options. He was the only survivor and since no one ever wanted to even just listen to him he gave up. He just agreed with them and accepted the blame and has now developed the habit of accepting blames of others rather than seeing someone suffer as he did once and still did. [break][break]

Sleep is a curse given to him. He suffers from nightmares almost every day which results in getting barely any quality sleep and consequently affects his mood or behavior. He can often be found wandering the campground at night, aimlessly walking around in an attempt to stay awake.[break][break]

Nikolai was born to an unknown mother and Hades, the god of the Underworld. When he was an infant, barely a week old, he was found wrapped in a black satin sheet in a dirty and abandoned alley. Fortunately, someone heard his cries and saved him from almost freezing to death. It is one memory that has stuck with him and thus he hates the cold more than anything. A lady, kind enough to adopt him, raised him in New York City where he led a pretty quiet life (or so he thought) because the lady was a demigod herself and managed to fight off any danger when he was young. However, of course as a demigod danger lurked behind every corner and so it didn't take long for a monster to sniff him out when he was alone.[break][break]

Barely a week after his 12th birthday the Nemean Lion disguised as a regular lion during a trip to the zoo attacked him after he was dared to climb over the fence and walls and then pushed into the lions cage by classmates. Fortunately, the adrenaline and the fear inside of him unlocked a tiny part of his powers and hence he was able to escape, not defeat but escape, by traveling using the shadows and ended up outside of the cage. Not exactly right outside where he was supposed to be but farther away. His teachers were desperately looking for him but he immediately went home. Once he arrived his foster mother decided it was time to explain everything to him and immediately sent him to Camp Half-Blood where he stayed as a year-round camper and was claimed almost a year after arriving. Everything was... not so great, never has been for him but he managed to make some friends and somewhat get used to being a demigod. He excelled in swordsmanship and regular combat but sucked at archery and art. His ancient greek is pretty bad but it's something he just couldn't bother with. When he was 16 he and his friends were sent on a quest by Hades to retrieve something of Persephone.[break][break]

At the end of their seemingly successful quest, returning and making it out pretty much alive, not completely unhurt but alive and mostly in one piece, they encountered Echidna, mother of a lot of monsters who was seeking revenge from Nikolai after years. He could barely remember what he did to make her mad but she was kind enough to remind him. He thought he was safe because she was seeking him out and singled him out without the others knowing but the threat made by her which he thought was a joke or not going to happen was indeed made truth just shortly after. She had sent a flock of harpies after them which stuttered something about him having summoned them to kill his quest members. Of course, this wasn't the truth, this was all a ploy from Echidna herself just to avenge the past mistake he made. [break][break]

As they were injured and out of nectar and ambrosia they had no chance of winning against the flock of monster pigeons. It didn't take long for them to slaughter everyone but Nikolai because they spared him. He wasn't their target, no, it was everyone he loved and cared about. His friends agreed to come with him on this quest made by his father. Upon returning to camp, devastated and heavily traumatized, he was not given a chance to explain. Rumors had started spreading before he even came back and therefore, fingers were pointed at him for killing their friends and siblings. It was then that he started to hate his father for sending him on this stupid quest, the monster for her stupid revenge, and his friends, who he lost, for not being strong enough to fight against and survive as well as everyone who pointed the smallest finger at him. He started to hide, pushing everyone away and just keeping to himself. Camp was the only home he had and there was no way he could leave and live a normal life unless perhaps he went to the Underworld to live there. But that's something he didn't want to happen even if he dies. He would rather haunt the earth than stay in his father's realms. [break]

[ UMBRAKINESIS ] - Nikolai has the ability to summon, control, manipulate and travel through shadows and darkness. As a child of Hades this is the one power that comes very much naturally to him and sometimes unintended for example if he is in a bad mood or sad he calls upon darkness to cover him. He can hide using shadows by becoming part of it but he can also use it as some sort of weapon by bending and warping darkness and shadows into a blade-like form. However, the more power he uses the more energy it drains from him and this power usually works best when it's nighttime or if he's in dark rooms or spaces. During the day or with lights and no shadows available to him it is very hard to summon those.

[ NECROMANCY ] - As a child of Hades he has control over the dead and some monsters as well. While they don't necessarily always listen if he commands them (especially the more powerful ones), the more stupid ones can be persuaded into doing whatever he wishes them to do. He can see and talk to ghosts that wander around the earth and are in the Underworld but oftentimes he chooses to ignore them as they tend to pester him with wishes and favors. He can sense the death of someone nearby which usually shows by a painful tug on his heart. The closer someone is the more painful it is.
