[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
Hal has grown to rely on himself, and because of this he has very high expectations for himself. He tries to be realistic, he knows he can't be the best at everything, but losing at something he considers himself to be good at is an absolute no, and he sometimes gets too competitive, pushing himself or others too far in for the sake of a triumph.[break]
[break]He's definitely a bit of a loner, his Roman peers think him too Greek, and the new coming Greeks think him too Roman. He's an excellent fighter though, which has earned him some respect among his fellow Legionnaires, but he wouldn't call himself close to -or even friends with- most of them. Hal is a bit judgmental and when he casts a first impression on someone, it can be difficult to escape it. He's tough though, and would be a fiercely loyal friend to anyone he cares for.[break]
[break]Hal often has nightmares of the spirits that his father allowed to pass through his territory. When these visions come to him he finds himself in the hellish scape of the darkest depths of the underworld, sharing the memories of the most vile beings to walk to face of the planet. Because he was plagued by these dreams as a child, he has a dislike for those who speak to spirits and the dead. He feels resentful towards his father for not being at all present in his life, for Pluto is a being far powerful to risk a visit to a demigod, lest he offend Jupiter. Once, Hal wished for Pluto to visit him for his birthday and all he got was a demon laughing at him in his nightmares.

[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]BIOGRAPHY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
Hal was born to Julie Agiad, something he always found odd, because his mother was greek, or at least some ancestor of hers was. That was always her explanation whenever Hal asked about the spear in the secret cabinet behind the painting in her room. [break] [break]
Hal's mother raised him alone, in a small apartment. His life was pretty normal by demigod standards. No monsters, for the most part. Hal went to public school and had a few friends. They weren't very popular, but it never really bothered them. [break][break]
One of Hal's friends was often bullied for his size. Hal, who also was never the biggest always worried he was next. After his friend received an actual beating, Hal decided that was never going to happen to him. It was the reason he took up boxing. [break] [break]
Hal was very pleased when he discovered his natural skill in the sport. Throughout his years before the Wolf House and Camp Jupiter, boxing was his main way of venting frustration. No dad? Wham. Bad day? Wham. Someone say something that gets on your nerves? Wham. [break] [break]
One evening, when Hal was alone outside the school, waiting for his mom to pick him up after a particularly long day, his friend's bullies decided, "Hey that one kid's easy, what about his friends?" The second they laid their hands on him, Hal laid them out. Wham. He wasn't about to put even more stress on his mom by going home with a split lip. That wasn't about to happen. Wham. The veins in Hal's arms darkened, turning black. The darkness around him had seemed to reach out to him, calling him, telling him what to do. Helping him do it. WHAM. [break]
[break]
Both of the kids had to go to the hospital. Hal never actually found out what he did to them. Obviously, he was expelled from the school. But on the bright side, his friend didn't have to deal with the bullying anymore. [break] [break]
Hal tried his best, but he ended up going through two more schools. On his way home from being expelled from the third, he saw something that made him do a double take. It was some... creature. Something that shouldn't have existed. The thing roared at him, Hal backed away, the wolf like approached. It was a horrid thing, it's maw dripping red saliva. Or blood. In the pale moonlight it was hard to tell. Hal ran from the thing, he tore up the stairs to his apartment, the doormen simply didn't seem to react to the thing as it chased after him. He near ripped the door to his room off it's hinges, his mother was already up, she was able to see it. She shouted for him to get the spear. [break] [break]
Hal ripped the painting from the wall to retrieve the weapon, it was cut off at the end, as if it was broken long ago. It's hilt was wrapped in brown leather, it's edge was impossibly sharp, it glinted in the dim light. Hal ran back to his mother, who was backing away from the monster. The werewolf turned its maw towards Hal. It ran him down. Hal saw the shadows swell around him, they reached out, grabbing at the creature. Hal plunged the blade into the monsters chest. As it howled it lashed out in a dying attempt to harm its killer. A single claw managed to tear through his shirt, drawing blood. [break] [break]
Before the attack, his mother had hesitated to send Hal to the Wolf House, but after it she knew she had little choice. She left him with Lupa the next day, with the spear. Hal trained with her for two tough years before she deemed him worthy. With her, he trained in the use of his odd weapon, Lupa called it a "greek artifact." Upon reaching the Legion, he handed them his letter of recommendation. It was from a former member who'd been dishonorably discharged. The friend who was bullied. It was a good letter, but since it came from a dishonored member of the legion Hal wasn't offered a spot in the top two cohorts.

Strengths
[break]
Artifact Wielder: Hal's broken spear is an artifact known as "The Broken Spear of Leonidas." When Hal has the spear in possession, it gives him even faster reflexes. Hal suspects some ancient magic has imbued the spear with some degree of sentience, as it has started speaking directly to him when he's in danger. Should he lose it, it always finds him again, one way or another. The spear's edge is silver, while the center of the head is celestial bronze, as such able to kill lycanthropes, mortals, and monsters.
[break]
[break]
Close Quarters Combat: Hal's boxing background, mixed with his unorthodox style of combat of using a shortened spear and a long sica, make him a terror in a one on one fight. His fighting style, without use of his powers, is nearly all offense. His choice of weapons are a sore subject among some of the more traditional campers, with his spear being a greek artifact, his sword being more of a falcata than anything else, and his aggressive fighting style being very greek influenced, they see him as particularly "unroman."
[break]
[break]
Sovereign of Shadows: While some children of Pluto might use their heritage for necromancy or to control metals, Hal is a little different. He has the gift of Umbrakinesis. With this he's able to use the darkness to obscure himself and others from view, form barriers and fire blasts of darkness at his opponents. These come naturally to him and don't require much focus, it's like kicking a soccer ball, it takes skill to place it where you want it to go, but with practice, you can get the desired result as many times as you want.
[break]
[break]
Hal doesn't actually physically move darkness, instead he absorbs their energy and redirects it. To an onlooker, the shadow being drained would appear pale, translucent, but still in its original, naturally occurring place. Due to this, his power and potential are reduced in sunlight, but lose many of their limits at night.

Due to this, his power and potential are reduced in sunlight, but lose many of their limits at night.
[break]
[break]
Hal's eyes glow softly in the dark, granting him almost perfect vision even on the darkest days. Hal can easily teleport to patches of darkness within his line of sight. Traveling any further then that a concentration and focus, the difficulty of which scales to how well he knows the place and how far it is from him. Even then, Hal hasn't practiced much, so who knows where he might end up. When he shadow travels, Hal literally shifts planes, so he shares the space with condemned spirits and souls of the underworld, it's rarely a peaceful experience.
[break]
[break]
Hal can generate darkness of his own, though he's found that it's never as potent as that which occurs naturally. (I.e. weaker output)
[break]
[break]
This One's a Runner: Hal and his friends were avid freerunners during his time in the city. The close buildings and tight alleys allowed him to get pretty good at it
[break]
[break]
Weaknesses
[break]
Fine Print: While his spear may tell him when he's about to be attacked, it isn't kind enough to tell him how he should defend against it.
[break]Dependence: Hal's grown used to have his spear on his body at all times, wearing it is like a constant adrenaline dump, he's faster, stronger, more aware. Having it taken away from him (out of his reach) and losing the benefit of its powers elicits a physical response, often a sudden lack of energy.
[break]
[break]
Defensively Lacking: Hal's use of a sword and short spear may catch some off guard, but his exclusion of a shield leaves him with no way to deal with multiple attackers or a volley of arrows. When placed in a situation like this, he's forced to use his powers to protect himself.
[break]
[break]
Nothing Short of Blinding: The middle of the day is when Hal is at his weakest. By subjecting Hal and his surroundings to direct light, he's not really able to use many of his abilities. You can't control the shadows if there are no shadows. Due to this he's not a fan of people who can control light or people who like the sun
[break]
[break]
No Son of Neptune Here: While Hal was able to learn how to navigate in the city, he never learned how to swim. Still, to this day he has no idea how to say afloat.
